Save the Dates and shower invites make the wedding feel like it's fast approaching!
By Jessica Solloway
It's official. I'm getting married. This should come as no surprise to you all, since I've been writing about every last detail of my engagement for a few months. But we sent out our Save the Dates a couple weeks ago and people have already started booking flights and hotel rooms. It's starting to feel real! Suddenly four months feels like crunch time!
The Save the Dates were a big success. We decided to forgo the typical fridge magnet announcement and came up with a very personal way to spread the news. Everyone knows that Seth works in politics and that we both live in Washington, DC. So, we created a Save the Date that looks like a postcard sized campaign poster. Our last names are in the center, flanked by red stars and blue stripes. It looks like we're running on a presidential ticket. At the top of the card it says, "Yes We Do!" (We're Obama fans, can't ya tell?) We even created a wedding website that has a similar address to a campaign website, www.jessandseth09.com. Clever, huh? It was so real looking that at first glance, my grandma Rita thought the President was finally writing her back to thank her for the banana bread. (Oy.) And a few people almost threw it out because they didn't want to donate to anymore politicians.
My shower invitations also just went out! It's hard to believe that after attending countless showers for my friends, there are two in the works for me! My soon-to-be mother-in-law is hosting one in New Jersey and some of my mom's closest friends are hosting one in Cleveland. It was so exciting to get the invites in the mail and put them on the fridge. I need to register for a few more things and then I should be all set! I need to perfect my ooohing and aaaahing over pots and pans. But I really am excited for my new kitchen gear (maybe it will make my cooking taste more gourmet). Our "breakfast for dinner" nights will be taken up a notch!
We are also headed to Cleveland next week for a wedding, and while we're there we are going to finalize a place for our Rehearsal dinner, meet with the florist to go over the proposal, and meet with the band for the first time (anyone have any must-play song suggestions? Or DO NOT play songs?).
So, we're getting there! I think my next blog will be about finding wedding shoes. So if you guys have any good suggestions on where to look, leave a comment and let me know!

I would skip any of those corny dances you hear at every wedding like the chicken dance or anything that includes the word "slide" in the name. They are so dated, and people hate doing them, and it can disrupt the flow of a great receiption when they bust out with those songs. I have been to a bunch of weddings this past year, and they have been done at all of them, and every time....all of us groaned!
