I had a friend that was involved in beauty pageants with her daughter and she told us about a pageant that was coming up. We competed in the pageant and Sabrina won. We were so excited we caught the "Pageant Fever." We actually had a lot of fun.
This has been a great bonding experience for myself and my daughter. I hope for her to gain self confidence and the satisfaction of knowing she has done her best and that she is beautiful on the inside and outside no matter the outcome of the pageant.
I have always thought that there is no reason to regret anything. Anything that you have done is over and done with so there is no reason to regret anything. Just learn from it and move on.
There are mixed feelings in my family about pageants. Some family members do not like the fact that Sabrina is wearing all of the hair and makeup and dressing up to parade up and down a stage in front of people. Most think that it is a great learning experience for her. It will help her self confidence. It will also help her build poise and speaking abilities.
My daughter, Sabrina, is not the typical little pageant girl. In her regular time she plays softball and soccer. Sabrina also loves to play rough. She loves to skateboard and she is a little daredevil. She is not afraid of anything and if it involves getting dirty or playing rough, she is all for it. We have enjoyed the friends we have met and the places we have been. It has been mostly a great experience.

I like the point of view in this article, or how the Mom views pageants, if you will. When I first saw the show, I was appalled at all the make-up, the outfits and what these little girls were doing for the pageants. I understood that they wanted to win, but I did not like the Barbie Doll smiles and the screaming parents.
I like they way the Mother said that the child had a life outside the pageants and how the girl enjoyed things other that winning. I like the Mother's attitude and how she believed that these competitions would help improve her daughters speaking skills and poise.
I watched a re-run today for the first time, and you made a comment to the effect of you'd like your daughter to use her looks if she needs too. WHAT? Are you freaking serious? Try having her use her BRAIN!
Does she feel more confident when she watches these shows and see's judges tearing everybody down?
I think sabrina did great!!! I was very impressed with her mother's additude. She was so positive the whole time. And for Amber to write that comment just goes to show that no matter how pretty you are on the outside, its whats on the inside that makes you ugly! I dont blame Amber for that, i blame her mother because that's where she's learning it from! Shes teaching her daughter to be a SHALLOW PERSON!
It was so refreshing to see such a wellrounded child in tonights episode. Her mom gave the only reason I give any credibility to for going these things. She realized her daughter was a tom-boy and did this to show her the more girlie side of things.
Mom, keep up the good work. You were there for your daughter (and not yourself) and it showed. You seem to have such a wonderful relationship.
Tracey and Sabrina
Tracey I thought you looked really pretty on air, and were well spoken. You have such a sweetness i never have seen before at pageants(stressful times).Sabrina looked so great. I loved her cutting the grass, but thought they would show her doing sports more.
You were right when you KNEW THEY WERE UP TO SOMETHING FILMING.
Yes, they were trying to start soemthing between us. When they said SHe blew all of us off, I agreed , said I didnt care what you thought. I wish they had gotten the girls together hanging out or talking about the pageant. Amber cried all night long, and you know she isnt a brat.Ashley Yes Amber no.See you soon at a pageant.
I have been watching this show for two weeks now. I found it on accident. So Far.......Sabrina and her mom are the best pair tied with the mother daughter theat was in the pagent together....the one that did the dance with the chairs i cant remeber there names. Good luck Sabrina in the next pagent.
I like this mother. I think you are a wonderful momma! In this world we do place alot of importance on beauty, you understand that. You even spoke about yourself and said that if you were in a room and "Barbie" walked in who would get picked? You said barbie! I like that you encouraged her and didn't bash her self-esteem like the other mother did in your episode. I feel so bad for her daughter and am angry at the mother for always belittling her daughter and comparing her to her other sisters! Shame on her!
Tracy keep up the good work! Continue letting your daughter be a tomboy. Let her know that beauty, kindness, and brains go well together
I caught this show my accident last evening and found myself appalled that is it even aired on WE, what I assumed to be a network designed for women and the empowerment of women.
This is nothing more than society sanctioned pedofilia, abuse of young women for entertainment. Their mothers, the judges and all the attendees need to analyze their motivations.
To turn a 9 or 10 year old girl into a provocative sexual object, and then rationalize it under the guise of a contest, beauty or otherwise is psychologically warped.
Of the many things I think are misguided and wrong about our society, this has to be one of the worse, and the mothers who push their daughters in this direction, then abuse them with commentary on how they could have done better need to be investigated by child abuse authorities.
Rick
Thank you Rick for being a voice of reason on this blog. I too have expressed horror concerning these pageant (april11710) I wish more people would get involved and try to show these moms what a terrible injustice that they are doing to their children.
I am sorry, but I can't approve of you mothers and fathers allowing your little girls have hair, dress and sooooooooo much make up that they look like they are 25 years old just to win a Little Girl Beauty Padgent. The key words here are LITTLE GIRLS. And I really hate it when you moms and dads say on TV that you are doing this because your daughters really want it. I have seen the little girls crying, pitching fits not wanting to do this and I have seen one who didn't make it in the top 5 and she saw her mom run into a room crying because of it and this little girl told the camera she was alright with not winning, but her mom was not. Who is it here that wants to win? My main reason for being against these padgents and the moms and dads is: We have enough problems with sexual offenders in this world and you parents and padgent promotors are FEEDING these sexual offenders with these padgents. PLEASE STOP!!!! let these LITTLE GIRLS be LITTLE GIRLS. Stop trying to age them to the age of 25. And for the women who said these padgents are just like have your child in sports. Well, I will DISAGREE with that. I don't dress my kids up to act and look an age they are not. Playing football they wear pads and helmets to protect them. Make up, fake hair and revealing dress doesn't protect a child. My husband and I have 3 teenagers. 2 sons and a daughter. When my daughter was growing up we were asked 100's of time to put her in modeling or padgents. We would not allow it because of all the reasons I have pointed out. If you want your daughters to be confident and be great speakers, then put them in Speech and Debate Classes. Parents wake up and smell the roses before it is tooooooo late for your daughters.
Why are there so many hateful people leaving negative comments? You don't have to watch the show. Pageants are not the only thing that dress up girls. Dance classes have recitals. Makeup, glitter and sometime hair extensions are used depending on what the teacher wants for the recital. Cheerleading has competitions. Have you ever been to a cheer competition? Hair extensions, glitter everywhere, makeup and costumes. Gymnastics also have some part of this. Makeup is used and so is glitter and those leotards leave very little to cover the child. Drama and acting - hmmm I don't know about you but I haven't been to a play that doesn't have actors/actresses wearing costumes, makeup and fake hair. NONE OF THIS IS CHILD ABUSE!!
Before you start judging someone why don't you look in the mirror and see your own faults. I don't think any of us could withstand being followed by a film crew for 10 days and then look perfect on television.
As for other sports such as soccer, softball, etc., how do you know that the children don't have other interests? Not all little girls want to play these sports.
Some little girls want to do things that are considered very girlie! Get over it!!
Dear ophelia105b, It is obvious you don't have children or at least a daughter. If you did you may have a chance of understanding where I am coming from. We only put our daughter in something like singing, sports etc. that did not require her to change her appearance, etc. heavy make-up, fake hair, fake tan etc. If she has to change her outside appearance to win something or whatever she never did it and she is a perfectly bright and happy almost 16 year old and by the way she is a singer/songwriter. We will be going into the recording studio when she and her brother finish writing their 4th song. Believe it or not she- to this day doesn't wear ANY heavy make-up, fake hair, fake tan etc. She doesn't want to be someone she is not. I feel that the moms and dads putting their daughters in these BEAUTY PADGENTS are hurting them instead of trying to make them better kids. And whatever happens to the kids will be the parents fault. Do you remember what happened to Jon Benet Ramset? Her murderer has never been caught and that family never stoped blaming themselves for putting her in these padgents. This family and the cops think the killer could have been as a result of the padgents. The padgent moms and dads are taking the same risk of that happening to their child. Like I said before the sexual predators are out there and they won't stop till they get what they want. I don't want anything happening to these girls or any child, that is why I speak out. I don't watch Little Miss Perfect, I only watch it twice to see what happens. I hope you padgent moms and dads wake up and smell the roses before it is toooo late.
To g8torsfan: Jon Benet's death has not been proven to have anything to do with pageants. If you are going to make a statement then please use proper facts. You can't say that because a child is in a beauty pageant there is a greater risk of a killer coming after that child. If a pedophile is after a child it doesn't matter what the child is doing. That just doesn't make complete sense to stereotype pageant kids like that. That's great that your daughter chooses not to do the makeup, tan, etc. but if she does make it in the music industry, what then? I'm afraid she will have to wear stage makeup. The posters on this blog act as though the girls are doing this 24/7. People it is a hobby - nothing more.
To the poster who said that cheerleaders aren't judged on the makeup, hair etc at a cheer competition, I hate to tell you but they are. I am a state cheer judge and it is ALL part of the judging. Remember this particular pageant was only created for the show. There are also natural pageants that don't allow any of the glitz. I'm sorry but you will never convince me that pageants are bad. I have seen too many good things come out of pageants both glitz and natural pageants.
Dear ophelia105b, Jon Benet's death also has not been proven not to have anything to do with her pageants either, in fact the last info show, which was the 10th anniversary of her death said it very well could have been related to her pageant days. They have had 2 suspects who are known child predators. Nothing has panned out, but also Boulder Police let the case grow cold. I don’t think any of us will ever know what happened to Jon Benet, but deep down inside I will always believe it had something to do with her competing in the beauty pageants. Her mom was trying to make her something she wasn’t. When you take a 5 or 6 year old little girl and you glitz her up with caked on makeup, fake tans, hair, nails, eyelashes, teeth and her beauty dress what do you get? A 5 or 6 year old girl trapped in a 25 year s old woman’ body. Inner beauty is more important than outer beauty and if the moms, dads and pageant directors know this than we wouldn’t be having this conversation. I am obviously not going to convince you that this is VERY WRONG, but I hope I have convinced others and hopefully they will pull their daughters out. As for my daughter, when she becomes a Contemporary Christian Singer, she will be old enough and wise enough to choose her outside appearance carefully. She will not be 5 or 6 years old trying to look 25. I pray that we have taught her well and I know that we have made the right decisions regarding this very same thing. Good Luck!
Can you name anyone besides JonBenet that was in pageants that has been murdered?
There is more information that points to her parents being to blame for the murder (oh yes, I'll still go there) NOT pageants.
Please, don't go around the world trying to 'save' every little girl you see on TV. That makes you look crazier than us 'pageant moms'.
It's a parents choice what hobbies they choose for their children. It's a parent's choice if they want that seen on TV.
It is not VERY WRONG. It's a hobby. Your daughter has her hobby....and I'm willing to bet my life savings that you had an influence in that, and supported her every step of the way. Right? See, we're not so different after all.
GetOverit I would rather be known for caring tooooo much for children and fight for children than be like you and most of these "Pageant Moms" who don't care AT ALL. So I just want to say to you GETOVERIT. I love and care for children who are being taken advantage of and made to look 10 years older than they are. When you are placing your child in these so called pageants where they wear FAKE TANS, FAKE NAILS, FAKE TEETH, FAKE HAIR, SHORT SHORT REVEALING DRESSES, AND CAKED ON MAKE-UP it is VERY SAD. 9 times out 10 these children are being put into these pageants to full fill the moms dreams not the child.
BEEP you just lost your life-savings. Her influences were her grandma and daddy. But, there is a HUGE difference in my daughters singing and the pageant girls fake everything. My daughter is 15 and she wears NOTHING fake. She doesn't even wear much make-up. My daughter is not FAKE where as these pageant girls are FAKE. We don't make my daughter into something she is not. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!! And yes I support my daughter FULLY to be herself and not someone she is not. Do you understand the difference? I feel sorry for the children not for the parents. I believe the parents should be held accountable for what they are doing to their children. You see, the parents are supposed to be the ones in charge of their children, these children in these pageants are placed there by their parents. The children don't just wake up one day and say "I want to be in pageants". The parents choose this for them. We did not choose singing for my daughter, she was a teen when she chose singing and there is NOTHING FAKE ABOUT HER AT ALL. Sorry about your life-savings.
Sometimes neither brains nor beauty will win. For example, Hillary Clinton had the brains and Sarah Palin had beauty.
I'm sorry that we missed the mark in 2008.
If Sabrina decides to run for president in 2012, I will vote for her. I knew that it would be against the Constitution, because she is too young, but it is also against the Constitution to be born in Kenya and we already ignored that one.
We desparately need a president that is beautiful on the inside and beautiful on the outside. Right now, we have one that is Black Liberation Theology on the inside and "I-hate-America," according to Mark Levin, on the outside.
I've never watched the show, but I'm sure it doesn't portray the whole pageant experience...I'm blogging because my daught is 4 and particiapting in her 1st pageant next month....I have never done anything like this so I need some advice on how to prepare her and me for it!
first is if you lose its not your fault its your first make sure evrething is well planned out get a couch be preaperd for how much money your gonna spend and make sure she likes her stuff if she doesnt she will show it on the stage
Okay look, im in pageants.. i have been since i was in 3rd grade, and i would like to ask everyone who is critizing her, have you EVER been in a pageant? have your daughterS ever been in a pageant? i would think not because if you have then that is a pretty stupid reason to yell at her. im not a mom.. i cant even drive yet.. but i do know that us girls in pageants love to do it, cause we know that our family and friends will be proud of us no matter what is on the trophy, and i know from experience that it really hurts when people critize pageants without even knowing about them..
so im going to explain(:
there are two types of pageants:
glitter and natural.
im a little both but more to the natural side..
glitter has the fake hair, teeth, eyelashes, etc.
and i can agree that those are a little over the top..
but you still have no room to yell and CRITIZE
you have A LOT of pressure on you going up on that stage infront of every one..
and who are you to judge her parenting?! thats ridiclous!
i just made an account on here to reply to the comments on this because i am so sick of people judging girls that are in pageants! just leave us alone! we love doing what were doing and if you want to give mean looks if you see something about pageants.. then go ahead, WERE HAPPY!!
pageants WERE NOT meant to make girls into barbie dolls.. they were meant to make every girl feel important.. like a princess.
and thats what they do.
STOP CRITIZING
when you dont even have a clue what its like.
I like the point of view in this article, or how the Mom views pageants, if you will. you have A LOT of pressure on you going up on that stage infront of every one..
and who are you to judge her parenting?! thats ridiclous!
i just made an account on here to reply to the comments on this because i am so sick of people judging girls that are in pageants! just leave us alone! we love doing what were doing and if you want to give mean looks if you see something about pageants.. then go ahead, WERE HAPPY!!
pageants WERE NOT meant to make girls into barbie dolls.. they were meant to make every girl feel important.. like a princess.
and thats what they do.
STOP CRITIZING
when you dont even have a clue what its like.
