Parent's Name: Rhonda & Robert Meeks Child's Name: Kendall-Grace Meeks
We decided to become involved in beauty pageants with our daughter to try something new, to make friends and see what pageants were all about... and to see if there were any life-lessons to be gained from pageants.
When we started the pageant process I had hoped to gain a better relationship with my daughter by having some fun, making new friends, and doing something together to make some memories.
We have absolutely no regrets! We made new friends, we had a lot of fun in the process, and learned some things about each other.
Our family and friends are very supportive. We have our own cheering section at the events and that always makes us feel good! Everyone is very excited and can't wait to see the television show. They all want everyone to see that we are real people who happen to do pageants. We all want everyone to know that there are things that can be learned from pageants and that not all pageant people are like what has been previously portrayed on television.
We are a close-knit family who support each other in whatever activity we happen to be doing. We try and have fun wherever we go and make life an interesting journey as life is too short. Our philosophy is "If it isn't fun, try something else!"
Comments
First of all, Little miss perfect showed the other mothers, and familes only in there stressed moments of the experience.
They actually had a lot of fun, and, were never showed having fun, because the directors cut it all out to make there episode.
Second, how does the Meek's family know for sure there episode won't turn out the same.
These little "Beauty Queens" are the CREEPIEST things I have ever seen!!! A child in all that makeup looks RIDICULOUS!!! You are not in this to gain a better relationship with your daughter or to make new friends. You are making you child do something you CANNOT do! You know what the life lessons learned will be - she will end up feeling insecure and lessthan. You know what memories your daughter will have of this....she will HATE you. What you are taking part in is CHILD ABUSE. You spend QUALITY time with your daughter, not putting a 20 year old's face of makeup on her and making her perform like a trained monkey! What did you learn about each other??? That she is a child and you are a monster? Again I say this is abuse and social services needs to be contacted! I wish a social worker would stumble on this show as I did and take these children away from you all, put you all behind bars and never allow you to be around children again!
I have to completely disagree with you melissa dcg,
You've obviously never entered a child in a pageant, and you've obviously never entered a pageant. So you have no right to talk about pageants. I disagree with Glitz pageants, but NAMiss, and Dream Girls USA, and National Teenager, are all natural and i support them very much. Being a pageant mom for over thirteen years, i would know.
But i did manage to catch the Meek's episode, and it was very down to earth, and she didn't make Kendal look ridiculously fake, And i thought it was heart warming when you both started crying after formal wear. It was something i would have done with my daughter. But as for Alexa's mom, she needs to get a clue, her daughter isn't perfect, and neither is she.
I have been watching these type of shows for several weeks now. Obviously I think my daughter is beautiul so I was trying to decide if I wanted to be invovled with pageants. I am apprehensive about all the makeup, extreme training, and outragous clothing. However, when I saw this episode it changed my mind. Being able to enter my daughter and getting judged on natural beauty is the way I want to go. The FAKE look is not for us. I think there is alot to gain by being a part of something special.
I am Amber's mom on episode 6.We enjoyed your show last night. It was cute, and all my girl scouts were over here, and you made us all cry! Good luck with future pageants. You showed how to have fun.
Congratulations, you didn't dress your daughter up like a little tart, your daughter is actually a natural beauty, and so are you, her mother. Beauty is on the inside, and you have it!! It is nice to see some real people in this competition, you are cute and warm and sweet, you should have won.
I want to commend you for how you used this as a platform to build a relationship with your daughter. You two obviously had fun and the positive and uplifting remarks that you made to her backstage, about her being beautiful and you being proud, just proves that you are doing this for the right reasons! Good for you!! I realize that parenting skills can't be truly defined by a 1 hour show, but you seem to truly care for your kids and your whole family seems supportive of this, so I think you are doing a fantastic job! I'll note that I Ieft a not so complimentary message on the blog of the other mother who shared your episode. She could stand to learn from you and how you nurture your child and build her self esteem versus tear it down.
Anyway, I was also very pleased to see that you had a natural look on your daughter for the competition. Y'all did well, so it just goes to prove that they don't all have to be dolled up with fake hair, teeth and makeup! You are both beautiful, just as you are!
Now to: melissa dcg
You are an idiot who obviously didn't watch the episode before commenting. Your comments are harsh and totally out of line, at least to this family. Yes, some take it to extremes, but this one did NOT. Your generalized statement about these people having their kids taken away and put behind bars is just nuts! Obviously you oppose children's pageants, so I highly recommend that you not go to or participate in them; otherwise, keep your hatred to yourself!
I think you two did great on you episode! You seemed like you had a great time doing this together. You seem like a great family too. I have watched every episode of LMP, too bad the judges seem to be awarding the contestants that have money to buy the expensive clothes, the fake teeth and so much makeup, their skin does not even look natural. Perhaps looking at all that glitter on the other kids, blinds them to the natural beauties. Guess it goes to show you, money talks. You were winners in my book!
I agree with you one million percent. For example, I think that Shelby should have been included among the top five. However, her parents are hard working people who work hard to dress her up. Sorry, that is not go enough for the elite judges. Like you said, money talks on these shows.
Now as far as the judge with the dog. I think your dog will make a fine dish of snake food. Why not have a "working class" dog, like a Newfoundland or a St. Bernard? Instead, this judge wants to look like the queen of England. Your dog is too small for kids to ride and President Johnson would kill it, if he tried to lift it up by the ears. However, it would make good snake food.
All the kids are great, but once in a while, it would be reasonable and just, if you voted for a working class kid, one whose parents are really making a sacrifice, so that rich people can be entertained.
I just wanted to say that I agree with everyone else. You and your daughter seemed like a wonderful team. She clearly enjoyed what she was doing and I think it is awesome that you draw the line at how much makeup, etc... she wears. I'm really impressed with your family and wish you the best of luck in the future. You are all amazing!
Rhonda, you and Kendall-Grace oooked good onstage, but you both were beautiful afterward when you took your daughter in your arms and told her how beautiful she was. I was tearing up right along with you.
To all of your viewers, I want to say that Miss Rhonda and Kendall-Grace are soooo much your average mother-daughter team!! I'm glad LMP showed them in a positive light, but it can't compare to the light they shine on others!!!
Pageant families aren't all about make up and AZ stones.... the ones I'm friends with are about building up their daughters' strengths (even if it isn't your daughter), about making friends, sleepovers, swimming, finding out how to keep our sons occupied during a pageant weekend.... It's all about taking a village to raise a child. To all of you naysayers... We are a very close-knit village.... it's moms and dads making sure our little angels are following through while keeping the rest of our family happy. :)
Rhonda, Kendall, Julie, Abigale.... holy cow the list is endless..... we are very fortunate to count you on our list of friends!!! I am so glad you were portrayed as the close family that you are!!!!
Beauty pageants are nothing more than an ugly monster that will steal one’s soul. My daughter who is now almost 21 years old grew up in the pageant system, entering her first pageant at 21 months old. She won many titles including “Toddler Miss Georgia.” At one point we donated over 500 of her trophies back to the pageant system. She was in a department store add and auditioned for two national TV commercials, coming very close to landing one. Furthermore, she competed in a pageant with Joan Benet Ramsey.
Moreover, pageants are money sucking machines that destroy families sending them into bankruptcy and divorce. I am a father who ended up in divorce. It was fun at first and then it got out of control. If one really wants to be good then one has to want to pay the price, including modeling lessons, voice lessons, have to be willing to spend lots of money on pictures, pay a choreographer to come up with a routine for talent. The money for the dress alone is outrageous not to mention all the other costumes that a successful pageant kid needs and I hope you have really good suck up skills. Now let’s put money aside for the entry fee, travel, hotels, food, fuel, hair and makeup.
Many of the mother’s are backstabbers that are absolutely obsessed and would spend $1000 for a rock if they thought it would bring their daughter’s luck and help them win. I have witnessed Mother’s that scolded their daughters after losing a pageant and mother’s who promise the moon if the child wins.
Since these girls are catered to and treated like little queens they have a distorted view of how reality really is when they get older.
The real kicker is that my daughter’s mother catered to her and gave her everything and now my daughter will not have anything to do with her.
Believe me when I tell you, the so-called reward at the end of the rainbow is not worth losing your family over. Dads if this sounds like your wife save yourself some grief and go ahead and get your divorce. I could go on and on about pageants since I lived it until my divorce, but I have to say that I am so glad to be away from it. The only reason that I am responding on this site is that I saw the preview about the upcoming special on WEtv and just wanted to share my story.
You got it darktimes! My beautiful daughter won her first pageant at 4, again at age 5. I walked away. I walked away because I felt stupid for doing this. Let me tell you that most large pageant companies are huge money sucking machines. In my few years involved, I saw mothers (who should have used the money to better themselves through weight watchers and education) living through their little girls, fathers wondering around hotels bored and pissed at the wife for spending too much money. And somewhere in the itnerum is a brother who is hardly acknowledged by his parents and miserable. I found my daughter a Girl Scout troop, enrolled her in dance, and is now being considered for a gymnastics team. She can't wait for her recital, and is challenged physically! I was lucky, my daughter won, I don't know how I would have explained my reasons for entering the pageants had she lost. I don't know how I could justify the end to her.
melissa_dcg, I agree with you that these madeup little girls look creepy. There is something Stepford Wives about it all. They all look like clones of eachother.
On the show Michael Galanes keeps saying how the judges are looking for the most natural acting girl who seems the most comfortable in her skin. Yet the girls who really are natural and don't wear all the false accessories don't make it into the top 5.
I thought Rhonda was a good pageant mom (if there is such a thing). Definitely not covering her daughter's face in make-up and putting the pressure on (like Traci and Alexia)- Kendall seemed to want to be there and have fun. As far as pageant-mom's go, she's okay. The whole thing is creepy still!!!
Moms- get a life and wake up. You are damaging your children. These pageants should be put out of business. You are contributing to the child abuse of your daughters and helping these blood sucking pageant owners make money of your insecurity a and your children. Get out now before you really screw up your kids.
Rhonda and Kendall,
First I want to tell you that I thought you both were wonderful in the pageant. I judge alot! I have never seen such LOVE in a mother's eyes than when Kendall was modeling! YOU were there for YOUR daughter NOT FOR YOU!! You handled yourself in a professional manner and that's what teaching your child should be! It was refreshing to see such a mother and daughter team that truely enjoyed themselves at a pageant!
In my book you are the "MISS PERFECT MOM AND LITTLE MISS PERFECT DAUGHTER! Thanks for a refreshing show!
I am sorry, but I can't approve of you mothers and fathers allowing your little girls have hair, dress and sooooooooo much make up that they look like they are 25 years old just to win a Little Girl Beauty Pageant. The key words here are LITTLE GIRLS. And I really hate it when you moms and dads say on TV that you are doing this because your daughters really want it. I have seen the little girls crying, pitching fits not wanting to do this and I have seen one who didn't make it in the top 5 and she saw her mom run into a room crying because of it and this little girl told the camera she was alright with not winning, but her mom was not. Who is it here that wants to win? My main reason for being against these pageants and the moms and dads is: We have enough problems with sexual offenders in this world and you parents and pageant promoters are FEEDING these sexual offenders with these pageants. PLEASE STOP!!!! let these LITTLE GIRLS be LITTLE GIRLS. Stop trying to age them to the age of 25. And for the woman who said these pageants are just like have your child in sports. Well, I will DISAGREE with that. I don't dress my kids up to act and look an age they are not. Playing football they wear pads and helmets to protect them. Make up, fake hair, fake tanning and revealing dress doesn't protect a child. My husband and I have 3 teenagers. 2 sons and a daughter. When my daughter was growing up we were asked 100's of time to put her in modeling or pageants. We would not allow it because of all the reasons I have pointed out. If you want your daughters to be confident and be great speakers, then put them in Speech and Debate Classes. Parents wake up and smell the roses before it is tooooooo late for your daughters.
Why are there so many hateful people leaving negative comments? You don't have to watch the show. Pageants are not the only thing that dress up girls. Dance classes have recitals. Makeup, glitter and sometime hair extensions are used depending on what the teacher wants for the recital. Cheerleading has competitions. Have you ever been to a cheer competition? Hair extensions, glitter everywhere, makeup and costumes. Gymnastics also have some part of this. Makeup is used and so is glitter and those leotards leave very little to cover the child. Drama and acting - hmmm I don't know about you but I haven't been to a play that doesn't have actors/actresses wearing costumes, makeup and fake hair. NONE OF THIS IS CHILD ABUSE!!
Before you start judging someone why don't you look in the mirror and see your own faults. I don't think any of us could withstand being followed by a film crew for 10 days and then look perfect on television.
As for other sports such as soccer, softball, etc., how do you know that the children don't have other interests? Not all little girls want to play these sports.
Some little girls want to do things that are considered very girlie! Get over it!!
You and Kendall remind us of me and Amber. We watched you agian last night and you made us cry again. We loved your wowwear routine.I loved how the daddy was involved. All your daughters are so beautiful. Amber and I hope to meet you at a pageant someday.great show. Loved how you too really are close. Loved how you sold chocolates.Special bond Amber and I recognized. Love amber and kris olive
Oh she is so beautiful withour makeup! We do both types of pageants.I admire how you have your views about makeup and stick to them. ALso, we think you are the most beautiful mom in the shows. You have a pretty face! Amber said shes a sweet mom you can tell.
Dear ophelia105b, It is obvious you don't have children or at least a daughter. If you did you may have a chance of understanding where I am coming from. We only put our daughter in something like singing, sports etc. that did not require her to change her appearance, etc. heavy make-up, fake hair, fake tan etc. If she has to change her outside appearance to win something or whatever she never did it and she is a perfectly bright and happy almost 16 year old and by the way she is a singer/songwriter. We will be going into the recording studio when she and her brother finish writing their 4th song. Believe it or not she- to this day doesn't wear ANY heavy make-up, fake hair, fake tan etc. She doesn't want to be someone she is not. I feel that the moms and dads putting their daughters in these BEAUTY PADGENTS are hurting them instead of trying to make them better kids. And whatever happens to the kids will be the parents fault. Do you remember what happened to Jon Benet Ramset? Her murderer has never been caught and that family never stoped blaming themselves for putting her in these padgents. This family and the cops think the killer could have been as a result of the padgents. The padgent moms and dads are taking the same risk of that happening to their child. Like I said before the sexual predators are out there and they won't stop till they get what they want. I don't want anything happening to these girls or any child, that is why I speak out. I don't watch Little Miss Perfect, I only watch it twice to see what happens. I hope you padgent moms and dads wake up and smell the roses before it is toooo late.
To g8torsfan: Jon Benet's death has not been proven to have anything to do with pageants. If you are going to make a statement then please use proper facts. You can't say that because a child is in a beauty pageant there is a greater risk of a killer coming after that child. If a pedophile is after a child it doesn't matter what the child is doing. That just doesn't make complete sense to stereotype pageant kids like that. That's great that your daughter chooses not to do the makeup, tan, etc. but if she does make it in the music industry, what then? I'm afraid she will have to wear stage makeup. The posters on this blog act as though the girls are doing this 24/7. People it is a hobby - nothing more.
To the poster who said that cheerleaders aren't judged on the makeup, hair etc at a cheer competition, I hate to tell you but they are. I am a state cheer judge and it is ALL part of the judging. Remember this particular pageant was only created for the show. There are also natural pageants that don't allow any of the glitz. I'm sorry but you will never convince me that pageants are bad. I have seen too many good things come out of pageants both glitz and natural pageants.
I just wanted to add to the positive comments on this board. I loved your family Rhonda. I loved it when you tried on your gowns for your hubby. He was so cute. He wanted you to wear the red one..that man is in love with you...it was so touching to see his reaction to your gowns. Your whole family is beautiful. I wish they showed you and your family for the whole hour. It was truly nice to see the comradery you all have. I am not certain why folks out here leave nasty messages, however, this is a glitz pageant.....if folks didn't want the little ones shown off with makeup and such, perhaps they should get on a message board in the 'natural' pageants and say something positive. I hope the negativity doesn't deter you from going further w/your daughter(s). Much love from Rhode Island. Look forward to more seasons of this show and more contestants like you.
Rhonda, you are the only parent I can stand out all of them after watching these shows. I think you, and only you, did it to spend time with your daughter.
That said, Melissadcg is right. To all the posters who said she didn't know about pageants because she's never done them, hey, I've never been set on fire, but I know it's bad. And watching these little girls turned into trampy 35 year olds by their mothers, who ARE living vicariously through them, is disturbing. Put the money into a trust for your child's education and let them enjoy childhood before that. These pageants only teach stress and comparions, "not good enough" is the message these little girls will learn. It's sick. Face it.
For those of you who keep leaving mean comments are jerks. One of best friends is Kendall's older sister. I know Miss. Rhonda very well. Everything she said in her video is completely truthful. She loves Kendall and they did have a great experience together in this competition. So if you want to leave hatred comments, leave them for one of those other pageant moms who deserve it.
you all are mean but some stuff is true think does the child like it rhonda was a great pagent mom i love her she is a great compettior to me and a great mom so evreyone dont talk bad it is not nice what if you all did pagents
I just have one short little comment to make..... lady you're an idiot. You looked like a mom trying to be cool , but honey you were FAAAARRR from it. Okay I lied of course I have more to say..... I've said this before and I'll say it again these pageants are ridiculous . Everything about them, from the parents ,to the over exposed children. The worst thing other than the fake teeth, too short bikinis, whore makeup, and creepy looks on there faces is when moms try and live out the outrageous idea of "perfect" with there child. Lady your ugly and so is your kid find something else to do, like potato sack racing, but put it over your face.
obviously all the women who enjoy this sort of thing...are 35 or older i would say. luckily I'm only 23 and i still have a sense of whats not corny and weird and i watch these shows when there's nothing else on (no offense WE TV) ,but they make me sOoOo mad i can't stand it, by the way i just wrote the comment up above so you know how strongly i feel about these pageants. i see a few people that agree with me and that's awesome. maybe if enough people criticize these "pageant mom's" they'll realize what asses there making of themselves and there kids, and move on to something a little more healthy like jr. stripping. in case you didn't catch that it was a joke. Anyone who feels strongly against what i have to blog about please do not be afraid to respond it'll be fun.

I too take issue with mellisa_dcg.
You may want to keep your comments to yourself if you do not fully know what you are talking about.
Rhonda is my cousin and she is nothing but the most loving parent who truly did want to have some fun and bond with Kendall-Grace.
Yes, I'm sure some pageant Mom's may go overboard, but you cannot lump everyone into the same category.
Oh, and trust me, my cousin Rhonda is beautiful inside and out and does not live vicariously through her daughter.
I am Amber's mom on episode 6.We enjoyed your show last night. It was cute, and all my girl scouts were over here, and you made us all cry! Good luck with future pageants. You showed how to have fun.

I agree, loved the way you performed! I really don't know more to say except go girls, both of you!
Loved it! Inventive and fun, by far the best and if you choose to do it again BEST OF LUCK!
Personality rules!

I think you were robbed!
Great, period! Mom and daughter are wonderful.

Why are all the mom's obese and the dads look like Larry the cable guy??????
Love you Miss. Rhonda, and Kendall, and Cierra
you all are mean but some stuff is true think does the child like it rhonda was a great pagent mom i love her she is a great compettior to me and a great mom so evreyone dont talk bad it is not nice what if you all did pagents
