Three essential styles that will never feel one-season.

By Heather Summerville

I was recently interviewing the celebrity who's going to be on Lucky's December cover -- sorry, readers, can't tell you who she is just yet -- and when the time came to discuss her current favorite bag, she went off on a tangent about how bags have become too much of a "thing." Which I have to agree with. The latest crop of big-name designer "it" bags start at well over $1,000. So then I started thinking up a challenge for myself: What if the next three bags I bought were the last three bags I were allowed to buy (gasp) ever? And I only had a thousand dollars total to spend (a lot -- I know -- but let's consider that it's supposed to last me for the rest of my life)? What would I get?

Juicy-152-130.jpgStarting with this great canvas tote, which I found in the new Under $150 Bag Guide on Lucky's website. I love the slightly macabre, slightly romantic feel of the Victorian chair on the front. Plus, as soon as this durable style starts to show dirt, you can toss it in the washing machine. It's exactly what I need for running errands or going to the gym.

I bought this bag about a year and a half ago and still continue to wear it for weeks at a time. It has tons of compartments for stuffing things (in the most organized way possible). And the double handles are such a great, functional addition. I use the short handles at the office, but put the long strap on to be more comfortable while traveling.

anna-sui-152-130.jpgFinally, I had to pick something small to take out with me at night. I'm not a very fancy dresser -- most nights you'll find me in a short tunic dress or jeans and a top -- so I usually carry a more eye-catching bag. When I came across this amazing beaded one from Anna Sui, I knew my search was over. I couldn't have envisioned a more perfect blend of vintage details in a modern color scheme. It's stunning.

Thankfully, I will in all probability buy more than three bags in the next 60 years. But it's nice to know that somewhere I have the ability to exercise some shopping restraint!
