It's largely known that women hold the purse strings to most families.

By Alaina Sheer

As a single mom I hold all of the purse strings, that's for sure. And until Benjamin learns how to balance the books I'll be flying solo when it comes to money matters. After leaving my husband when Benjamin was just four-months-old I had not a cent to my name, in fact, I was overwhelmed in debt - most of it his - and didn't even know where to start.

Not having any money to spend made it easier to not spend, but with nothing left over to save - let's just say, that now, nearly three years later, I'm still catching up.

But I'm almost there. I have my own thriftiness and hard work to thank but also these two blogs.

Fabulous Financials
The blogs author, Single Ma, became debt free in 2007. Throughout her entire fight to conquer debt she's been tracking her finances and spending on her blog. It's an amazing resource and a raw peak into another mom's checking account.

Fabulously Broke in the City
This blog is one of my personal favorites - the author is a twenty-something professed shop-a-holic who has curbed her spending ways and completely climbed out of debt. Check this one out - I guarantee you'll learn something and also feel like you should start packing your lunches more often.
