But I actually bought Benjamin Spiderman 1 and Spiderman 2 for his birthday. I hadn't seen either movie in years and didn't think they'd be that violent, and by an adult's standards they certainly aren't. However, to a three-year-old, the sight of the Green Goblin getting speared by his own glider in the gut can be quite traumatic.
I popped the movie in while baking Benjamin's birthday
cake and frantically wrapping presents. Twenty minutes or so in I heard
him whimpering, "Mommy, scary, Mommy, Spiderman in trouble."
I
dashed up the stairs and yelped a bit when I saw Spiderman in a violent
fight with the Green Goblin but when I reached to turn off the
television he screamed out at me to "STOP. Don't turn it off!!"
I
compromised and forwarded the movie to a safer chapter but still felt
like I'd suddenly exposed my son to an entirely new level of movies...
big boy movies. Is there any turning back? I'm not sure. So far
Benjamin has been refusing to watch anything except for Spiderman 2
(the less violent of the two). When I tried to put in Thomas the Tank
Benjamin wouldn't have it at all.
What are some more toddler to big boy transition movies? Tips from seasoned moms would be greatly appreciated.
