Three smart alternatives to communal changing tables.

By Christine Coppa

If you're a mom like me, you absolutely loathe those pull down, plastic, germ-ridden changing tables in public restrooms. Big, collective EW! However, let's face it, when you're out and about with your little one in tow you're going to have to change a diaper--or five. My top three picks after the jump.

Patemm Pad: I use this stylish, compact, tote-it-like a purse with those lovely straps every, single time JD and I are out and about.patemm.jpg

Invented by a fellow mom, this 24- or 30- inch diaper changing pad comes with and without pockets for diaper/wipe storage, accommodates brand-new babies to squirmy, on-all-fours toddlers (like JD) with its roomy, round size. A friend bought me "The Jack" when I was expecting. How appropriate too--my son's name is Jack Domenic. The paisley design is stimulating for his little eyes and a classic, chic look for me. "The Jack" starts at $38, Patemm.com.

Diaper Doodie: Go on. Say it. Say "Diaper Dooooooooooooooodie." It's fun to say, right?

Well, it's fun to use and look at too. The punchy-patterned pad opens up into a 15 X 26 square and when neatly folded can hold several diapers and a travel pack of wipes below the hideaway flap. I love DD because it is made with an inner-absorbent cotton material that you guessed it, can handle those baby boy tinkle sprinkles or let's just say any type of messy mess. Yes people, it's machine washable--and available in 8 rad designs. I like "Rodeo," $27, DiaperDoodie.com.

Fisher Price Rainforest Portable Changer: This light green, half-oval-shaped changer is 5.5 X 1.4 X 11.6 inches when open.

I especially love that it comes with a case for wipes. Ever run out of travel wipes and have to stuff a bunch from your changing table stash in a plastic baggy (or um, a square of foil)? Me too. The see-through pockets make reaching for diapers, hand toys and lotion not a guessing game when your cherub isn't feeling cooperative, i.e. likes to run around naked--in the park. Been there, too. Steal Alert: Only $7, Amazon.com/baby.

Storked! visitor here. :) I love the Fisher Price one. My baby boy is 6 months(ish) younger than JD, so I look forward to hearing your suggestions on Ga-Ga Goodies!
