David TuteraHello Brides and Viewers! Thank you again for your great questions. We are in full swing of filming Season 2 of My Fair Wedding and we are already off to a interesting and fun beginning! Here are some tips to keep you walking down the aisle in style, just like our new brides are about to this season.

Post: Love the show! Any ideas on a Halloween Wedding Costume Reception party?
From: Halloween Reception on February 10, 2009 8:48 PM

This situation is the kind of thing where you have to go either all out--or not at all! But there are ways to make your party less Halloween-themed (like a regular party you could throw any year) and more unique to your wedding. Do more of a Venetian masquerade ball, or a masquerade (opposed to asking guests to come in costume). These two themes are elegant, but also Halloween friendly. Or, opt for a great castle feel with gothic or medieval inspirations; think candelabras, deep reds and jewel tones, and don't make it scary--make it pretty!

Subject: How much is too much?

Post: I'm unsure of how much to decorate my wedding reception's venue. We've chosen to do an afternoon party at a smallish historic mansion; it's definitely not the size of Oheka! Our theme is "Edwardian house party," and our colors are cream, gold and aqua with black accents. I'd love to highlight the fantasia feel of the Belle Epoque era's affinity for cascading profusions of blooms in garlands and displays similar to what appeared in the centerpieces for the Irish-themed wedding. But of course, there's that pesky budget to contend with (we're looking to spend about $1,500 on flowers and decor total, which includes renting gold chivari chairs and my bouquet). I'd also like to let the mansion's own considerable charm shine through. This celebration isn't about being showy, it's about providing our friends and family with a good time. I don't think they'll be able to do that if the rooms are crammed with stuff! I'd love ideas for ways to create an enveloping feel. Oh yes, and we're having tasting stations, a different one in each room, along with tables scattered throughout the space, instead of one big sit-down dinner, so guests won't walk into one big space; they'll explore several rooms. This whole thing is about giving a sense of abundance and fun. Ain't nothin' clean-lined or modern about it! I'm thinking about giving each room a different feel... but I'm not sure what's possible with our budget. Trees? Giant vertical centerpieces? Go with something gargantuan around the room's perimeter, and do a small bowl with floating tea lights on each table so as not to detract from the floral frenzy erupting overhead? I think I've looked at too many bridal magazines.
From: glemby on February 17, 2009 6:33pm

It's very clear you've done your homework and you know what you're talking about! Kudos to you! But my concerns for you is that your budget won't enable you to achieve your expectations that I gather from what you're explaining, so you may want to revisit either the overall wedding concept, or the budget and find places to cut. $1,500 is a good budget but with your great taste and dreams, it may not give you the money you need... If the floral design is what will truly make you happy, absolutely find short cuts other places (do you really need the most expensive gown or cake?) and put your money where your heart is.

Subject: Ivory on White

Post: Hi David: My outdoor wedding will be held under a covered patio on for August 22, 2009. My vision is an all white wedding ceremony. I plan to rent white folding garden chairs, white pipe and draping, white aisle runner, etc. but my dress is ivory and I am curious to know your opinion on the ivory dress on white decor. My flower colors are ivory, green, pink and orange so there will be some color in addition to the white ceremony. Thank you in advance!! I appreciate your help with this matter!
From: ERJC on February 17, 2009 9:37am

That's a great question. I love the fact that you're wearing ivory when everything is white. There are 200 shades of white!

You'll look beautiful in an ivory gown, floating into a space that's all white. But--against a soft version of white, the orange in your bouquet may be too harsh, so you may want to change it to peach or coral. Nice job!

Subject: My daughter's wedding is Valentine's Day 2010

Post: David, I love watching what you do to change an ordinary wedding into a one to remember. My youngest daughter and her fiancé are getting married next Valentine's Day, 2/14/2010. They are planning on paying for the bulk of the wedding themselves, but my husband and i plan on taking some of the financial burden from them. There are many ideas on the table, but we aren't sure how we can make them happen. The town that we live in is small, but relatively close-knit. Our family and our future son-in-law have been raised here. There will be some family members missing unfortunately (my father and our youngest son and daughter's fiancé's mother all are deceased). We want to remember them and make them a part of this occasion. Other than having the wedding venue and the reception venue booked, the only other things that have been decided upon are the bride's dress, the bridesmaids dresses, the tuxedos for the men and the general color scheme--our daughter and her fiancé are huge Duke University fans, hence them wanting to use Duke blue, silver and white. That's about as far as we've gotten any suggestion/comments and your help would be greatly appreciated. My husband and I want our daughter to have the wedding that she's always dreamed of, but keeping within the budget. All total, we are looking at around $5,000 as a budget. HELP!!
From: varmitlover on February 16, 2009 4:38pm

Be careful with having a Valentine's Day wedding--your costs are guaranteed to be increased with floral due to the high demand of the season and DAY, so do less floral and play up more elements of décor. Having a Valentine's Day wedding without holiday colors is great--the colors of your alma mater are actually also the colors that could be used for a great winter wonderland concept. Even though it's on Valentine's Day, it doesn't have to have that feeling, so consider going in that direction--you can also save money by using "winter wonderland-esque" branches instead (or with) floral, and linen can add color. Honoring those who have passed is a nice and thoughtful touch during a wedding--Do a great tribute of photos and frames, either on the escort card table or on a fireplace mantle.

Subject: Getting Married for the first time at 48 yr old

Post: I'm 48 yr old and getting married for the first time. Since I waited so long to get married, I will be funding the wedding. I don't have a lot of money to spend so I'm looking for ideas that will help me have a nice small ceremony (less than 75 people). I've found a venue- a church built in 1904 so it has old world charm and it wasn't overly expensive. But being a person who never dreamed of getting married or even thought about what her wedding should be, I don't know where to start. I do not have very sophisticated tastes but I would like to have something somewhat elegant. I don't have colors or any theme picked out right now. The wedding is planned for June of this year. Any ideas or help would be really appreciated. My budget is around $3K.
From: Vicki J on February 16, 2009 4:24pm

Congratulations on getting married! At 48--Good for you! And good for you for having the wedding you want.

Spring is a great time to have a wedding as you can take advantage of all the great floral available to you. Every table can feature a different flower: try tulips, hydrangea, and peonies. I love the 1904 church--your style should have turn of the century look, like beautiful lace on your tables. Because you are an older bride, your guests will be more sophisticated and will appreciate the beauty of this look.

No matter what your age is, getting married is YOUR DAY, and every piece of your wedding should be looked at just as importantly. Don't not do something because you fear you are "too old"--jump in and have your dream wedding. Enjoy!

Subject: Vegas Wedding/Color GREEN

Post: Hi David, I'm getting married at the MGM grand outside on one of the Terrace suite rooms. I know how much you love green which is going to have to be a color in my wedding because of the glow from the hotel. The ceremony will be held at 8PM with a cocktail and cake reception on the terrace for about 45 people. So Colors Green and I was thinking just keep it simple with White and Black? The Wedding is April 10th the suite is booked and I'll be going out with my mother on March 8th to get a better feel for the space, any ideas on color help at the GREEN Monster?? Oh and feel free to come help out LOL
From: melissahowetobe on February 14, 2009 2:29pm

Hi Melissa! Well, you know what my answer's going to be: No green! But it's because I disagree with you: just because the hotel is green, why does your décor have to match? These are your wedding colors, not MGM's. White, green and black are too harsh. I know and love the hotel--it's dramatic and bold, and taking your inspiration from that is hard to translate into a soft, beautiful wedding. I suggest doing orange and pink, or pink and white--and incorporate a fresh look of green into your wedding through the stems of the floral that are in whatever colors you dreamed of for your one and only wedding day that is all about not Vegas, but you. I love Vegas and think every other day could be about Vegas, but make your wedding day about you. Win big for me!

Hi David,

Mt daughter is getting married Aug 8, 2009 at our home in Nevada City, CA. The wedding is scheduled for a 7pm ceremony to be followed by cocktail hour then first dance, dinner, cake cutting, dancing ..

My question is since this is an outdoor venue is it alright to have floor length linens table cloths in white with lighted vases with 2 calla lilies one submerged and one protruding along with branches coming out of the top sprinkled with a few swaroski crystals and then glass votive candle holders or is this too much white for an evening wedding. My daughter wanted black table cloths but I thought this would be to dark. Although it is her wedding. Her dress is Marilyn by Maggie Sottero in Diamond white and her brides maids are wearing black dresses. I appreciate your advice.

Fondly,

Heidi Wilcox

Hello David, my name is Mayra Rivera. I have been watching your show, and love the way you help people out. For a long time now, I have been planning my wedding, and every time something comes up, but now I am finally ready. I was wondering if you would be able to help me out and give me some tips. I have been seeing all types of halls and they want to much, but the only thing they have is tables and chairs. I need to decorate it and I need some tips. The colors are white and victoria lilac. The wedding is September 19. 2009. I would really appreciate it if you would help me out. My email is Mayra28rivera@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Hi David! I love the show, and I have learned so much. I especially love what you did for Mandy's wedding.
James and I are planning to get married in February or March 2010. We both love indie/punk rock. I cant gather my themes and ideas... my first theme being the colors red and silver, our second theme being old fashioned vintage 1940's sparrow tattoos (rockabilly underdog theme).
My ideas
1) I have an idea to do a candy buffet with all red candy, in vintage style jars with personalized bags like old candy shops. I already got some great jars cheap at some street sales.
2) I am going to wear a dress fitting my plus size body but try to place a large red rose in my hair to play up the 1940's vintage feel. The 1940's slender cut dresses dont look good at all.
3) I am going to try and place red table squares with silver napkins. I am going to use the sparrow on the table numbers.
4) I found these really neat cloth xmas decorations which are little sewn birds and I am going to alter the color to red and silver and use these for my escourt cards. Name on the body and table on the wing.
My concerns/questions are:
Are these ideas overboard? Do you have any advice to control my overly creative mind?

Also, they get the birds and go to the table, but what do they do with the cloth birds once there at the table!?!?!? I have been racking my brains. I thought about having some tree branches incorporated into my centerpieces for people to hang their bird on. Should I just scratch the idea?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated as I am working off my creativity. My mother always said I had champagne taste with beer pockets.

You are a blessing, Thank you.
Jennifer.

Hey David,
I have a problem. I am not a Bride but the Maid of Honor. My BFF Roxanne's wedding is in 6 weeks and she is still sending me pics of table arrangements. I have been trying to help her with her NJ wedding from 800 miles away. She has a woodland fairy type theme going on and I've been looking at moss and butterflies for almost a year now. I'm not sure if her budget will give her the amazing look she wants. I love her so much I would give her an enchanted forest if I could. Do you have any advice for this last minute mess?
I love your business web site it's amazing.
Thank you!
P.S. She is trying to win the My Fair Wedding make over and is in 1st place at www.realitywanted.com/calls/allapplicants/3868

Hi David,
I love your show. I also love to read your helpful hints. I need all the help I can get. My question is my husband and I got married six years ago. We did a quick wedding before he went out on deployment for eight months. The military is all about paperwork and if something would have happened to him I was still just the girlfriend. We planned on having the big wedding when he came back but ended up having a baby instead. We finally have the opportunity to have my dream wedding but I feel like the red headed step child because my family is treating it as such. What is the etiquette for a renewal of vows? Can I still have a bridal shower? Can I still have bridesmaids? Thanks for your help.

Hi David,

I am reading you’re your comments and I see that you are about to do it again. You are going to make some special lady’s dream come true. I don’t think any one has taken the time out to say GOOD JOB. I watch everything about weddings since I am planning my own. I never knew how hard it is in putting together a wedding. It should be all about that special moment but if you don’t have any help it can get stressful. I record everything so I don’t miss anything. I just have one question and that is what I should do with my venue. I am not pleased but because I have put some money into this location I have to go with it. I took a look around and the chairs are horrible. I want to change them out but it will coast a lot of money. I don’t want chair covers because everyone has them. So what should I do? My wedding day is 9/19/09 and the issues with the chairs have been on my mind. 

Sincerely,
Desiree20784

Hi David,

I am getting married at a country club and the aisle is the dance floor, which is 20 ft wide. I want to make an aisle. My mother has purchased small columns (about12 to 14 inches tall) and wants to sit ferns on them. I am not really feeling this idea. Everything in the room is off white/ivory. The centerpieces are tall vases with calla lilies and greenery. I am going for simple but elegant and I don't think my mother's columns and ferns go with this decor. What can I use to create an aisle?

hello daivd, my question to is, I am getting married jan 23, 2010 in Hawaii, and i really wanted to get married on the beach and have the reception all in one place. I have been looking for some time now, to try to find the PERFECT place and it is a little stressful, not finding what i am really looking for. Should i try to have the actual wedding on the beach and have the reception somewhere else. My only concern is that family and friends are having to come from the mainland and i dont want there to be to much travel back and forth from each place. I have been so excited ever since we have moved here, and looking forward to having the island feel wedding. thank you before hand, looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hello Mr. Tutera, I love your show!!! I was wondering if you could give me any tips or suggestions for my upcoming wedding in October of 2009. It is going to take place at a winery outside of St. Louis, MO. We have a budget of about $10,000 and are trying to keep the list at 125 people. My colors are a dark purple (bridesmaid dresses are Lapis with Victorian Lilac accents). Since it is at a winery I am going to make wine stem charms for favors. I am trying to think of what to do for centerpieces, any ideas? We are having a daytime reception. I am rather crafty as well as many friends and family members so anything we can do ourselves is great. Also, I would love to print my own invitations but am having a difficult time finding stationary that goes with a winery theme or at least something in my colors besides white. Do you know of anywhere on-line I can find blank invitations? I've been searching alot but haven't found what I am looking for. Thanks so much for any suggestions you can give me, it would REALLY be appreciated.

Sincerely,
STL Bride

I am having a Destination wedding at ochos rios, Jamaica in early November 2009. Is it possible to be on the show!!! I love your ideas (sometimes daring) but you seem to pull it off. Of course it is a beach themed wedding "Love & Life's a Beach". If I can't be on the show, what are some elegant details I can add with out breaking my budget ($20,000). There are 60 guest so far confirmed... I am surprised by all the guest (my budget is surprised as well).

Hi David,

My name is Christina Sullins and I am planning a July 2010 wedding. I am 24 and my fiance is 27. We have been dating for 5 1/2 years and just recently got engaged. I work full time and attend school in the evening and my fiance does the same. We are planning a destination wedding in Cozumel, Mexico and then want to come home and have a large reception. I am the girl who has dreamed of her wedding since I was a little girl. I fully intend to marry only once in my life and I have this vision that I so badly want to accomplish for my reception. Since my fiance and I are funding the wedding our selves I am starting to realize that I may not get everything that I had envisioned. I can only dream up half of what you create on your show. I want it to be the reception that everyone attending will compare every wedding thereafter to. My colors are black and white (I'm a modern girl) and emerald blue, I had to throw in color, after all it is a beach wedding. I have been addicted to the DIY websites but of course mine never looks as good as the original. I am in need of your assistance. I want my reception to be exactly what you said, I want it to go from ordinary to extraordinary, and I'm afraid I cant accomplish this on my own. I have started a wedding website, www.markandchristina.projectwedding.com so you could check it out and get to know us a little better.

Any assistance would be great

Thanks

Hi David
I'm writting for a friend of mine. We are trying to plan a wedding on a budget. We've decided to have the wedding catered, luckily this also means it will be small.

I was wondering if there was a way to get her on the show. She has some wonderful ideas and we need some help to get the wedding planned/further down the road. If you can't help in one way can you lead us down the road a little furthe? She's planning a masquerade ball. Her wedding is Oct of next year. To save some money we will be using family and friends loaned decorations such as fiber optic pumpkins, etc. Any more inexpensive help would be really neat! Thanks

Hi David,
My name is Monica. I just wanna thank you for such a great show! Congrats! It sure gives me great ideas for my wedding (July 24, 2010). Me and my fiance have been planning our wedding and putting our ideas together. Everything seems to be running smoothly. Now, I have a huge problem. I am 23 years old and look 15, also petite (5.1'). I have been looking for wedding dresses but no luck. I don't know what style suits me since I'm short and have a baby face. =( I wanna look like a bride and not a quincenera! I'm running out of time. What do you recommend David?

default userpic

Hi David,
I feel like I know you, anyway I'm getting married July 10,2010. My colors are yellow and green. I love calla lilies. Those are the only flowers that I see and like. I'm pretty not much into anything. I guess yellow is a great summer color and I love everything natural ,so green as in gardens is fine for me. Its going to be in Brooklyn,Prospect Park picnic house. My guest list is 100 but I see that I would have to lower the number because its being catered and my budget would not allow it. I see so much arrangements and ideas that I like, I don't know how I will ever break it down to one. One thing I see and love very much so far is the idea of guests writing their well wishes on natural stones. I can then later on decorate my home with this. After all is said and done I would like for my guests to somehow feel as if I thought of them all through my preparation for this wedding even though I know its all about me......as they say. I am from a small island called Grenada and it is known for its spices. I would greatly appreciate any kind of help. Thanks in advance!
