Happy Spring! It's my favorite season to plan weddings, full of new flowers to use, love in the air and inspiration everywhere. Read on for some tips from inspiring brides who are planning their special days during this fabulous time of year. QUESTION: Hello David, Love the show, you have definitely inspired me in planning my own special day. My name is Jane from Upstate New York. Due to a tight budget, instead of a wedding we opted to have a small engagement party for 60 in June 2009. Since I can't have a wedding right now, my goal is to still try to create an old romantic feel of Paris. I have listed a few things I have managed to pull together myself so far...
Flowers--I am using tall gold vases with light & dark pink flowers
Table cloths--light blue
Chairs--gold
Venue--beautiful little Inn in Saratoga
Do you have any suggestions for colors or items I should use to create the type of theme I am looking for? It would be a great help since I am really struggling to create this theme.
Best wishes,
Jane

DAVID TUTERA: Greetings Jane! Congratulations on your wedding! I love a French theme. Paris is after all, the city of love. My suggestion to you would be to incorporate some yellow tones into your current scheme. Also, utilize shades of blues, and not just one. Some other Parisian tips would be to use napkins made out of a toile fabric, fill baskets with baguettes, breads and French cheeses, and put grapes on the tables for a very French countryside feeling. Bon Apetite!
QUESTION: My mom has had to change her wedding date due to the original reception site going bankrupt. Since she has done that it seems that she has lost all motivation in planning her wedding. The new date is 5-2-2009 and she barely has anything done. On top of all of this she is a Christian and marrying a Muslim and wanted to have parts of both faiths in her wedding. Can you give her any advice on what she needs to do to get the ball rolling again. She has her dress, ceremony site, reception site, colors and bridal party chosen but nothing else. Please we need your help ASAP.

DAVID TUTERA: Do not fear! This is a challenge I have actually worked with before and my best suggestion is to have just one, non-denominational officiant do your service. Then, do special sections of the ceremony that draw from each side. Incorporate traditions from both to keep both sides of the family and not feel like one side takes precedence over the other.
QUESTION: Hello David, My name is Samantha and my fiancé is Dennie. We reside in Land O' Lakes FL, where the weather is absolutely gorgeous in the fall and winter. Our wedding is planned for November 2009. I am in such a manic confusion planning this wedding. I have chosen a very bold color (red) scheme for my wedding. The theme is Caribbean romance, with tropical flowers and a steel band playing. I am having great difficulty with envisioning the decor for the reception. Since red is such a bold color I'm not sure how to incorporate it into the reception. My bridesmaid's dresses are red and my bouquet is going to be red roses. Can you please give me some suggestions?
Thank you,
MsSFJones

DAVID TUTERA: I like your Caribbean direction! I think using red in abundance is fantastic. I would do red everything-- linens, votives, candles, napkins, everything. In fear of it looking to 'firey' or more provocative than sophisticated, add some orange which will give a nod towards the Caribbean flair. Some great tropical flowers in red: Ginger, and Birds of Paradise.
QUESTION: I am getting married this September at the Sheraton Monarch Hotel in Springfield, MA. My husband to be and I do not have a lot of money and are on a limited budget. The majority of our budget went to the per plate cost of the reception as well as the photographer and Dj, so we do not have a lot left over for other decorations. The hotel is providing the linens (including chair covers)as well as small flower centerpieces, but I think we might need more. The colors we have chosen for our wedding are white and red, but we are not sure how much of each color to have. We are in a huge Grand Ballroom that seats 600 people, but we only have 125 guests...can you give me some tips on how to make it feel intimate and relaxed yet elegant? Also, when using white and red, how much of each is too much? I really want to make it look classy, but don't have the money to do so. Please help!
Love,
Rosemary & Seth (big fans of yours!)

DAVID TUTERA: My first suggestion is that if you do equal parts red and white, it will look like Valentine's Day (the wrong holiday for love--this is a holiday of your own!) Decorate with the majority red, and bring in just a little white to keep your proportions right. To make your event space seem more intimate and to keep your guests from swimming in it, bring trees in, have more tables with less guests, or use large branches in your décor.
QUESTION: David, My boyfriend and I are trying to plan a surprise wedding! Neither of us want a traditional wedding and Vegas has been done so many times! (I actually had a dream that we just decided to get married so we threw a BBQ and got married. I think it was after watching my big redneck wedding in all...haha!) We both decided we could tell one person about the wedding to have them stand up there with us. So I think we have a location and most of the details of the actual ceremony but we are still unsure of how to ensure everyone is there! We thought about telling everyone it was an engagement party and we weren't sure when the wedding was going to be, so they must be there! PLEASE give us any help or suggestions you have to offer!
Thanks,
Rachelb24

DAVID TUTERA: I love surprise weddings, I think they're a great idea, I really do! You're doing the right thing by inviting them to a celebration that isn't a declared wedding. I suggest that you have an area that the guests will move to in order to discover that it is actually your wedding. If they are showing up for one event they have in their head, physically moving them to another location where everything changes (music, lighting, décor, style) will help them make the mental transfer as well, and will make your wedding look like a deliberate surprise rather than an afterthought.
QUESTION: I am pretty sure that I have found the dress, but I can't bring myself to make the final decision. I love the dress I have, but feel like if I keep trying other ones on, I'd probably find something else I like as well. I just want to make sure I look GEORGOUS on our wedding day, and not feel like I made the wrong choice. I have never been able to choose dresses. In high school, at all of the proms I attended, I would wear one dress to dinner, and another to the actual prom. When I go to weddings now, I usually don't pick the dress until that day, or the night before. Help! The dress I think I have decided on is Allure style #8526...you can find it here: www.allurebridals.org/bridal.html

DAVID TUTERA: Take the time to try on enough dresses until you feel like you've seen enough! If you've tried on enough to get a good feel for what's out there, then when you step into the right one, you'll feel it and know enough. You can't second guess yourself--it has to be the right dress for the season, body type, style of your celebration, and if that all makes sense and you still look great in it, then you have the right dress!
QUESTION: ALOHA David! I'm a US Army Service member, stationed in Hawaii, and I want to plan a vow renewal ceremony for me and my husband to celebrate 10 years of marriage. He is also a U.S Army Service member. Can you help with some ideas?
anointed1
March 1, 2009 10:41pm
DAVID TUTERA: Congrats on your vow renewal! It would be nice to create your wedding around something special to you--maybe recreate your original wedding or honeymoon. Make your vow renewal connected to your love and not just an anniversary party. Ask your husband what he thinks too, he may surprise you with some 'wedding wishes' of his own!
QUESTION: Hi David, I was watching Joanna and Michael's wedding on platinum weddings and you used rhinestone bracelets around the candles as a centerpiece. My question is where can I find something like or those exact bracelets?

DAVID TUTERA: Thank you for watching! I loved that wedding! For Joanna and Michael's candle trim, we actually used a diamond trim (faux diamonds can be found in this same trim at the craft store in the ribbon aisle.) You can also purchase elastic band of diamonds (much like bracelets) from faux rhinestone specialty sites by searching online.
Hi David,
I am having so much fun planning my wedding. It isn't until June next year but I already have everything planned down to a "T". We are having an outdoor reception on the terrace of a lovely little country inn. The terrace has a breathe taking view of mountains and rolling hills (very green in spring) My theme is soft and romantic and I am using cherry blossoms as a focal point. Altar arrangements, cake, and favors will be designed with the blossoms. The bridal party attire colors are rose petal pink and deep purple. I choose the purple because it is my favorite color but it was too dark for spring, so I decided to lighten it up with the pink. In the reception space of the inn there is a lot of deep mahogany decor and the chairs are apolstered with gold fabric.
So I guess my question is... I don't want my colors to be too flat with mostly pink and some purple. Is there an accent color you might suggest to give the wedding color scheme more depth? Or do you think it is okay as is?
Thanks so much! Huge fan of your work :)
Hi David,
I just want to let you know that I absolutely love what you do for people. Especially for Seria's wedding. No matter how many times I watch that episode, I cry my eyes out. They were so happy and I think that's wonderful that you can make people so happy on such a special day. Kudos to you!
Hey David... I need your help. My mom has gotten married 2 times and those 2 times the weddings have been disastrous. I was wondering if u could help me. If u r willing to help me email me at dolphin.reyes@yahoo.com
Hi David,
I need to let you know that I love your show. You are amazing. You did an amazing job with Seria's wedding. I actually went to school with her and I was surprised to see her on the show. Her color for her wedding is actually my favorite color. I just got engaged in January and I haven't started anything. Not even a date for the wedding. I need serious help. If you can help me in any way I would really appreciate it. You can email me at jessiedesir@hotmail.com.
Hello David,
My name is Melissa and I absolutely love your show. I was never one who planned their wedding since they were five, but now that I am engaged I see why they do!!! I feel like a big stress ball!!! I have so many visions in my head that I have no idea how to put them all together. My main issue right now is selecting a venue. Since we have decided to have a small wedding (about 30 guests), I've noticed that there are many places that dont hold small cermonies/receptions. Any suggestions?

Hi David! I just want to thank you for doing this show and dedicating all you time to help so many people on their big day! I am having my wedding in a small town in North Dakota. My fiancé and I grew up there and we feel it would represent us both to have our wedding around the people we grew up loving. However, b/c it is a small town the reception choices are slim. I have a metal Fair Ground Quonset and a huge all white Gymnasium to chose from! I feel overwhelmed and unable to envision what my theme should be, or how I would possible decorate either of these two places so my wedding doesn't look cheap. It feels very small-town redneck to have my wedding in either of these places, but can't think of an alternative that is affordable and holds over 400-500 people. (Since everyone in the town would want to come.) Do you have any suggestions for making a small town wedding elegant and decorating and ugly reception area at an affordable price? Thanks for the help!

Hello David!
Sweetie I just have to tell you that I love love love what you do. You are an amazing planner and I wish you were out here in Phoenix, Arizona to help me. My fiance James and I are planning on April 2010 for our wedding. I think I have found the venue and dress. I fell in love with this mermaid dress. I really loved Mandy and Mikes wedding with the whole old Hollywood/ rock a belle theme. I really want a old Hollywood themed wedding, Old Hollywood is just full of so much glamour. We were looking at bright colors though for our ceremony (reds, oranges, and pinks) James loves white so we were thinking the reception to be all white with aspects of your "bling wedding" from your website. I would love to hear what you think or if you have any ideas of change. Thank you so much,
Danielle xoxo
Hello, David! I just wanted to tell you that I love your work, you do an outstanding job, and have so much creativity. My fiance and I are getting married March 12, 2010 in Azle, TX. It's going to be an outdoor wedding, and it's a unique garden with lots of greenery. It has streams of water throughout the garden, and the banquet hall has one wall of glass where it allows a lot of natural lighting, with a view of there water fountain. I want to do a garden theme with a touch of elegance, simplicity, and something different. I'm not really into the french garden theme, but I'm having a tough time putting my vision together. So here it goes. My dress is Demetrios style 1381. I do not know what I'm going to do as far as the bridesmaids at this point, if I want long or tea length dresses. My colors are diamond white, aqua blue, and silver. I do not want the whole tiffany blue theme. I was thinking of raspberry pinks, oranges, and that green waxy looking plant that are used for bouquets. I was thinking of using a tall glass trumpet style vases with the flowers shaped into half a ball with pearls or crystals hanging down, and would place these centerpices on some of the tables. And for the other tables this is the part that makes it different and unique, I wanted to have a few candy buffets with the apothecary jars filled with candy that matches the flowers. The linen would be a soft white, the chair covers would have the aqua blue ribbon, to allow the colors to pop. My theme would be an elegant version of Alice in Wonderland, but not kiddish. I was thinking garden, tea party type style. And the tables will have empty clear plastic tea cups placed in cellophane with an elegant note that says "Fill Me" So basically the whole theme would not be based on Alice in Wonderland, it would have a few concepts from the movie. I guess you could say it would be more of a "Whimsical Garden" theme. I know this message is long, but if you could kindly respond, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
David,
I just finished planning a Wedding Reception for one of my neices in April. She loved her reception; however, I was not as prepared as I needed to be. I actually missed the wedding ceremony and still did not have the reception venue finished by the time the reception started. Everyone loved it once I had everything in place; however, I was so disappointed that I couldn't have given her the wedding she so deserved! Her sister is getting married next year.
I have chronic health problems which keeps me from completing projects in a timely manner; therefore, I am trying to get an early start for this upcoming wedding. I want to be more prepared and organized for this upcoming wedding so that I am able to finish all of the projects on time, have the reception site complete on time so the reception is more spectacular and runs much smoother, and I am able to enjoy the festivities.
My neice wants an outside wedding. Due to our Texas weather, she is planning an April 2010 wedding. We have few wedding venues in our town that offer outside settings. If she is not able to find an outside venue, then the date may change to June for an indoor wedding. The couple is not interested in a formal church wedding. They would like their wedding to be stylish and fashionable without being too formal or traditional. My neice wants a black and white wedding with berry pink highlights. She really likes the way you incorporated those colors into the table settings on the episode with the bride Mandy.
It looks like the main table cloth is pink with an overlay that is white with a black print (was the print embroidered?). I would like to receive more info on the overly so that I can locate a similar one or recreate a similar version to fulfill both the bride's dream and the couple's budget.
Any suggestions you may have on how I might recreate the table accessories would be very helpful. To help my neice out, I will be doing many DIY projects to keep the cost down.
My neice is not interested in a themed wedding; however, she does want to incorporate some small bits and pieces from Alice in Wonderland. The bride has suggested placing phrases from the movie on tags for the toasting glasses in leau of gems/charms and on cookies. One of the phrases for the cookies is "eat me". This has become a tremendous challenge for me on how to incorporate the items from Alice in Wonderland and still keep a stylish look for the wedding reception. Would you happen to have any suggestions?
Regarding table cloths: I feel confident about sewing table runners, but have not been able to find a resource for fabric wide enough to create SEAMLESS table cloths large enough for either banquet and round tables. In case I am unable to locate the table cloths pre-maid, would you happen to have any resources for fabric you could share with me to help in this manner?
Any other ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and assistance.
We look forward to future episodes and more of your great tips.

Will lighting only look ok with the drapery? if you have any suggestions please help. One of the venues that I have thought about is www.miltonhoosicclub.com.... David,
I'm not sure where to start. I just got engaged to the father of my two boys. We are planning a wedding for 3/27/2010 with a limited budget. We started saving and want to do this without having an debt. I thought about using the color lilac or peridot and lite pink. I'm not sure how to do my theme without busting our budget. We have a venue we like, but would have preffered somewhere with gorgeous grounds by the water. We haven't signed anything yet, but have selected a menu we like. Please help, my girls that could possibly lend an helping hand are in another state and super busy. Your help and/or any sugesstions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi this is hard to do because I don't know where to start. I am helping my daughter and her fiance get this wedding off the ground. My daughter has been threw so much and I want her to have the best wedding possible. My niece and I have the colors picked out for the dresses and the flowers. We have also got some of the other ideas worked out for table toppers. I just today got the venue. It is a beautiful place to do a spring wedding. Wedding set for May 30, 2010. The problem is what goes well with an outside wedding as far as settings and backgrounds. The colors of the dresses are pink a very light blue and a light green as well as the wedding gown being white. We want to match the vests of the men to the girls dresses. I didn't have a fancy wedding and just want to make hers the best she can dream of. Just need some great ideas to put this together to give her a dream wedding.
Hi David;
I am 56 soon to be 57 years old, and getting Married June 12, 2010 for the 2ed time in my life. My first wedding was not mine I had little input on it , This wedding I want to be spectacular! Here is my challenge.
I live in Nebraska a very small town and the only place I can have a reception is in the local VFW…… My Future Husband (my soul mate) Is an Over the road Trucker so he’s gone allot and my family are all back in New England! In Fairbury here I have a few friends who can help, I can send you photos of the hall if you can give me few idea’s to fix it up ! see what you do for others on your show and I could use your help!
Thanks Sharon
Dearest David,
So i have written a few times on here. I have a few more questions. First i am looking for a very unique pair of shoes. Can you let me know where i may get a good fair deal on somthing silver with rhinestones and possible shades of blue scattered throughout? I purchased a pair and decided not to use them because they are ivory like my dress. I want somthing more whimsical looking! My wedding color's are silver , ivory, poolblue and oasis. So i wanted the same feel to my shoes instead of plain yuck boring! (lol) The theme is tropical and traditional . So my tiara is silver and my dress has silver on it and my jewelery is silver rhinestones as well. It is in the spring , wedding date is 3-20-2010 yeah right around the corner! I am still nervous on how all my colors will flow and if i have to much going on. I have left my cake simple in ivory with a traditional lenox bride and groom topper in ivory trimmed in silver. I felt i needed to have that left simple , it will have a monogram S on the cake and some simple banding with a pattern in the banding of a floral print in silver and dusted with silver for a simple finish! The flowers have coral colors and white circus roses along with ivory roses. I have flowers to go at the main table only, and of course the wedding party. But sailboats and sea glass on the tables with square votive candles. I also did a silver picture frame guest book, which is so awesome. They actually engrave their names into the frame and it holds a 8x10 picture in it . I wanted somthing unique once again! Any other ideas for my spring wedding in sunny South Florida? Thanks David i hope i get a response to my post!
