I am getting married Nov. 2010 and am looking for inexpensive ideas to really make sure everyone has a good time. I already have an open bar, buffet, DJ, and am thinking about buying a Polaroid camera for guests to use for the guestbook. What are some other fun things to do without it being cheesy? No YMCA, chicken dance, electric slide! Maybe something to do with fall, though? - dianethelibrarian

DAVID TUTERA: Diane, Fall is one of my favorite times of the year to plan a wedding. As you plan, think of all the reasons why people love this season: the natural colors, the cool crisp weather, and the harvest (which inspires great colors, foods, and décor!) I bet you'll be inspired by your surroundings alone. Spray paint mini pumpkins and gourds metallic colors like gold and bronze for unique centerpieces or décor for your buffet. Create a specialty drink for your open bar that infuses fall spices. Have fun with fall treats, like s'more kits for favors. (And you are correct... the "Chicken Dance" is always "out of season!") But embracing the season your wedding takes place in is always a road to success. Enjoy!

I am getting married on February 20, 2010. This will be both myself and my fiances second marriages. He doesn't help me in the planning, all he says is what ever I want. We have the colors scheme, ceremony and venue location and flowers, however we still have not been able to meet together and make any definite decisions. Any advice on how to get him to come and meet with me for the final decision making. - nehe2x

DAVID TUTERA: Dear Nehe2x, Well, some brides would see being able to take the reins for their entire wedding as a gift! But, I do believe that weddings turn out best when it's a two-person effort. After all, it is celebrating your "union."

I do sometimes find that husbands-to-be just aren't in the wedding groove--as J.Lo would say in "The Wedding Planner" movie, "most grooms are N-I-D: not into details!" So advice to couples: Make the "tasks" of wedding planning less obligatory and more fun. If you need to meet to make final decisions, do it over a fabulous dinner out on the town, or open a great bottle of wine. The key is balancing your wedding check-list with quality time that allows you to just enjoy each other rather than constantly working on the wedding. Make plans to accomplish something together and then reward yourselves by doing something fun.

Also, make sure your groom feels as if he has a say and your wedding decisions aren't just about what you like/want and what you both "need." While some aspects of the wedding may not particular light his fire (likely this pertains to flowers), include him by asking, "If you could have anything you want at the wedding, what would it be?" Support his answer and together, work to incorporate it, whether it's a certain type of music or his favorite cake flavor. Try to tie in his heritage or culture. The more personal the wedding is to the both of you, the more fun the journey will be.

Should the bridesmaids have real or fake flowers for their bouquets? - kkacn78744

DAVID TUTERA: Kkacn78744, Yes, yes, yes! Bridemaids should always have real flowers. By no means do they need to be elaborate bouquets--but having fresh flowers makes all the difference. If budget is a concern, don't give up: the amazing thing about flowers is that some are so beautiful in and of themselves that having masses of them isn't even necessary. Beautiful bouquets can be made with just a few stems of statement flowers like sunflowers, tulips or calla lillies. Wrap the handles of the bouquets in extra fabric from the alterations of your bridesmaids' dresses or your gown for a couture custom look that doesn't break the bank.

My name is Kortney. I'm 22 years old ,and my wedding is in Florida. The theme is a more of a royal traditional African theme. My colors are apple green, chocolate, and gold accent. My problem is that I cant figure out how to finish up my vision of royalty without clashing my colors, and would the backdrop affect with drapes and color behind it be a good affect for royalty? I am really confused on how to cut down my clash of African prints to add clean crisp elegant look, but still pull off my theme. - Kortney22

DAVID TUTERA: Kortney,  Your wedding theme actually reminds me of one of my upcoming episodes in Season Two... but I won't give any more away!! I think these three colors are beautiful together: they're very natural, organic hues. To keep them from "clashing," tie them together with natural elements. Try using rattan or raffia as ties around your napkins. Intersperse green leaves, zebra grass and wooden branches in your floral arrangements. Include gold as an accent color, maybe with votive candles on your tables, or use a deep shade of it in the printing of your programs.

Regarding busy prints, use them sparingly but deliberately--for example, show off a printed fabric on the inside of shawls for your bridesmaids, as linen on your cocktail tables, or ribbon on your favors. You're on the right track!

I'm on a tight budget but want an elegant and beautiful outdoor wedding with an indoor reception with an outdoor theme. What do you suggest? - amber b

DAVID TUTERA: Amber, I do love the magic that comes with making guests feel like they are indoors when they are really under the sky; and outdoors when in reality they are in a ballroom. Something about the collision of indoors/outdoors fascinates guests--and is always fun for the planner! For your "outdoor-themed" reception that is taking place indoors, use branches in your centerpieces as they are both cost-efficient and good for creating a distinct feeling of an outdoor atmosphere. From the branches, hang tea lights or small lanterns with fishing wire--also cost-effective! Start your reception with a fully-lit room, and throughout the night, dim the lights as if the sun is setting. As it gets darker, the tea lights will glow like an outdoor reception under the stars. Alternatively, use elements from the great outdoors to mentally transport your guests: try a runner of grass town the center of your table and embed votive candles inside. Use fun fruits in your flower arrangements. Find items outdoors (now this is the ultimate money-saver!) that fit your theme, like pressed leaves or lavender sprigs that you can place at each setting. The easiest way to bring the outdoors in is to go outside, look around, and do just that!

Hi David, my name is Chaya...my wedding is weeks away, it is planned to be October 25th of 2009 and things are getting hectic..I just recently heard about the show and have been taping every episode and am mesmerized with your amazing wedding transformations to say the least! I am originally from Belgium and moved to NY 7 years ago. My dream wedding has always been very glamorous and old Hollywood style. Although I have a dream, my budget is nowhere close to allowing me to have what I want. I don't have too many friends who have time to help, and my fiance is busy working day and night shifts to make some of our wedding expenses meet, so no help there either. I am 4 weeks away and completely overwhelmed and not even close to having anything done :( PLEASE DAVID HELP ME!!!!!! I DONT KNOW HOW or WHAT TO DO!!

Hello David. I'm planning on getting married April 2010 at Afton Villa Gardens. It's a lovely ruins garden in St. Francisville,LA. One of the reasons it appeals to me and my fiance is the natural setting-the flowers, the green lawns and terraces, the pond...so much natural beauty that will make a splendid backdrop for our special day. Unfortunately,we're finding it difficult to come up with special, personal touches we can include in the decorations that won't compete with the ruins or pose serious risk to damaging them. Do you have any advice? (Oh,I forgot to mention that NO fire is allowed on the site.) We're also debating how to approach the dancing we'd like to include at our reception, which will be on the same grounds. The main question we're dealing with is which would have less impact on the terrace lawn:setting up a stage/platform area for the dancing,or just kind of sectioning off a portion of the grass and dancing on it? I have no idea how to handle this detail, and would appreciate any ideas you may have. We're keeping our guest head count below 100 people,if you need that detail. Thank you! :D

Hi David,
I'm getting married February 20, 2010. The reception is being held on a military base to keep the cost down, however the base is in serious need of decoration. I'm not sure if I want floral centerpieces. I'm looking for something intimate and elegant so I was thinking something with a lot of candles. I am also entertaining the ideal of draping to cover the bland walls at the reception site. The theme of our wedding is elegant black and white affair. Wondering if you can give me any decoration tips on how to spruce up the reception site so it won't become a night to forget. I am in serious need of some ideas because I am so lost. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Hi David Tutera,

I just wanted to leave a comment and let you know how talented you are. I am 22 years old and live on Long Island . I watch your show all the time ( have it on DVR), what you are able to create is truly amazing. It brings tears to my eyes, its sounds so cheesy but i mean that with the most sincerity . You have a gift , you meet someone and are able to get such a good sense of who they are and are able to take their dream wedding and make it appear with such elegance .I love planning parties and over the last three years while attending college for teaching , it has become apparent to me more and more that event planning is not only my passion but my calling. I love creating moods and creating the perfect theme for my friends and family. There is no greater feeling to me than seeing the room i have created on whatever budget has been given to me. My brother's boyfriend recently asked me to plan his graduation party from law school this spring , the excitement i got from him reaching out to me for my advice and taste is something i can not even put in to words. I know i could become so much better with actual experience in this field working for a company. Today while watching We , my mother told me i should write to you. I naturally told her that would be crazy ,but this is my dream so i took my Mothers advice . You are my idol. I have never reached out on a blog before. But i was wondering if you had any advice for an aspiring event planner. It would be an absolute honor to receive any advice/ guidance from you. Hoping to hear from you :)

Always a fan - Gabrielle

Hi David,

I haven't set a date yet for my wedding, but my theme is Doves and I would like my colors to be Blue & Sliver. I was wondering what I can do that won't cost me an arm and a leg. I saw the episode tonight and loved how you had the place set & favors into one. I would like to do something like that with the doves. I have no idea where to start when it comes to this. I really want my wedding to amazing. I actually got information on the palace somerset park. I was so shocked when you said that place. I was actually thinking of having everything there in one place. Can you please give me some suggestion. Can't wait to hear from you soon.

Hey David,

The date will be August 14th 2010.. August 14 is the date we started dating (4 years ago). He will be going to Iraq in January so everything will be in my hands. I am stressed just thinking about it. I do not know where to start can you help! please! =) I need to know the things he will need to do before he leaves because he might be back in June which leaves no time. The wedding will be in Jersey or New York where it is closer to our family, and also because I will be going back home when he leaves. I love your work and need serious help! Thanks!

Hello David!
I LOVE watching your show! So many amazing ideas! I am planning my wedding for July 17,2010 and I'm having an issue with the color scheme, not sure if I'm just overthinking :) Our colors are apple green and pink with gold accents. I'm not sure though if I should use mainly a fuschia pink? Or a soft pink? They both look good with the apple green but I want it to look very elegant. Also, I keep trying to make everything the same exact tone, down to the napkins at the bar, is that really that important? Also, the girls' dresses are apple green and luminescant taffetta and cocktail length, I was thinking gold, strappy shoes, they do not think that goes together, any advice on the shoe color? Lastly, any unique centerpiece ideas? I was leaning toward green apples inside a large vase, with fresh flowers at the top, not sure what kind yet.
Thank you so much for any input! You are so amazing, Sure you don't want to make a trip to Michigan next July??? :)

David, Your style is amazing and I love the new show. I can't get enough of tasteful weddings. My daughter's was three years ago on the beach and I'm still flying high. SW Florida is a fabulous place and maybe you'll be planning a wedding here soon. Your impeccable suits do not go unnoticed. Keep up the hard work because your show is humorous, tender and simply beautiful.

Dear David,

Here is a real challenge for you. My son, Chris, and his fiancé, Allison, are both physically challenged and are due to get married on October 17, 2009. As you can imagine their budget is very limited and they are scraping by as best they can to pull this together. Allison is in a wheelchair and Chris has issues with his balance. Both have cerebral palsy but are not mentally-impaired. Chris takes awesome care of Allison and physically carries her around when needed – in and out of wheelchair, etc. It is truly a miracle that they found each other as they were both looking for someone to love. They are so excited to be getting married!

My mother watches your show and had this idea that you might be able to help them. What a nice surprise this would be for them. Believe me they need your help!! I know this is short notice but this would be so awesome for them.

Please help them!

David, as you must deal with contracts when changing brides vendors, how do you deal with a business who is dishonest? We had toured facilities and booked with the full payment in advance in March 2009. After having great difficulties with friends and family, we decided to cancel and arrange for a private weddingmoon in Las Vegas. Our main vendor, who was an all-inclusive ceremony/reception location service provider, has a pretyped contract, with the financial portion hand written. During the tour, witnessed by the soon-to-be groom's parents, the representative said the deposit was "a couple hundred dollars" and we did not need to pay the amount in full until 10 days prior to the event. We chose to pay it in full to make it easier on everybody. However, in the contract, he wrote in the full amount owed, that we paid, in both the deposit slot and the full amount balance slot. The cancellation/refund policy states that if they are rebooked on the event date, we are to receive 50% of the deposit, they retain the remaining 50% as non-refundable. Our original date that had been booked was June 27, 2010 and we cancelled on August 19, 2009. The contract is in writing and we did sign it without realizing the deposit amount change. We were rushed through the facilities and then the contract session with little time to read it over. But, this was the only affordable vendor we could find within our budget at the time. Now the business owner is refusing to work with us and has consistently changed the required deposit amount owed to even higher than we paid for the full balance. At this point, he is basically telling us that we will not get any money refunded to us and we should eat our losses. Is this legal?

Hello Lost in the Garden!

I think you are spot on for choosing your venue for the reason you did. For décor that is both beautiful, fresh and cost-efficient, nothing can compare with your natural surroundings! I call it Mother Nature’s own contribution to your day. If you are able to have your wedding in a tent, ask for a clear vinyl tent that will allow your guests to enjoy the foliage and sky throughout the night.

It’s fantastic you are so eco-minded; in fact, that’s one of the most important parts of outdoor weddings for a planner (especially as it can be costly to restore grass and gardens that may have been “visited” by some wayward partiers or damaging decorations.) For an outdoor dance floor that also preserves the grass, look into elevated platforms. Ask your venue, lighting or rental company about creating a sturdy low stage that will only touch the ground with support legs. Your guests will also appreciate this—heels and soil are not a good pairing! To abide by the open flame restrictions, use mechanical taper and tea-light candles (think elegant versions of the ones you see in windows at the holidays.)

Thanks for your question! I hope all brides will become as earth-conscious as you! Happy entertaining! -- David

default userpic

mrscarter09,

I will never disagree about using candles! Using them in abundance is no-fail, cost-effective AND dramatically elegant. (What else can achieve all those things with the simple light of a flame?) For your black and white theme, I suggest using all white candles, in different shapes and sizes. Use pillar candles of varying heights and thicknesses and taper candles of different lengths. Use different styles of candles—for example, some can be made of beeswax, others can be sprayed with delicate glitter. The little touches and details are what will make your wedding unforgettable.

I also suggest, with a black and white theme, to add an accent metallic color. I often add silver to black and white décor. It adds that bit of spark and metallics evoke the feeling of “special occasion.” Spray paint some of your taper candles silver and use silver votive candle holders for touches of glamour. Use silver candleholders and flatware to keep the momentum. Use black napkins and silver napkin rings (create them elegant cording from your craft store) for a simple but effective way to make your place settings pop. Hope this helps you on your way to a “night to remember!” Happy entertaining!
-- David

default userpic

Mika2331,

To make a theme like this work, first start thinking outside of the box! I’m talking about getting away from the literal (no napkins folded into the shape of a bird please!) and more towards the creative concept.

When people think of doves, they naturally think white, so the white should be your main color. I actually would love to see all-white for this, but you can use your silver and blue as your accents.

Spray vintage birdcages (found at yard sales, craft stores, or home décor stores) silver and lay them in creative fashion across tables. Ask your florist to help create floral to go with the cages. Alternatively, you can add just a few delicate feathers to your bouquet, your centerpieces and even your napkin treatments. There are feathers that are less like a boa and more like discreet, interesting fashion accessories that will keep you on track for elegance rather than looking like you’ve just flown the coup!

Regarding favors, I can’t be a stronger advocate for two-in-one place card/favors like Caroline’s! Here is where you can be literal: a silver dove paperweight or dove-shaped white chocolates would both work atop each setting. Don’t forget, it’s more than just looks when it comes to a theme—doves make me think peaceful serenity. A harpist during your ceremony or cocktail hour will be the icing on the cake to set the tone, and is sure to make your guests fall in love…with doves. -- David

David! I absolutely love you!!! I have already decided that I want you to plan my wedding. Granted, I'm not anywhere near getting married :-) I'm 22, no boyfriend, therefore no wedding plans, lol. But I completely adore you and your style. I'm just hoping that I'll be able to find you and get ahold of you to do my future wedding :-/
Good luck with the new season!

Hi David, I looooooooooove your show... I am looking forward to the new season to get ideas for my upcoming wedding in 2010. We don't have a date yet since my fiance is currently serving in Iraq but we will be deciding on it upon his safe return.

I will be contacting you to get some ideas from you. We have a very tight budget but I dream of a simple yet elegant and classy wedding. I'm thinking Spain/Morocco as my inspiration for our special day...

You are amazing and I congratulate you for all the beautiful weddings you have put together. The transformations are great but most of all I love the impact you have made in the bride's lives. God Bless!!!

David, I have to tell you: I came across your cable show when I was channel surfing while exercising, and beyond your evident sense of good taste, what particularly mesmerized me was how you tactfully handle your brides and thoughtfully guide them to making their best decisions.

I'm a wedding professional myself, a photographer in the NYC/long island area, and dealing with local couples' senses of aesthetics is a pretty big part of my dealings as well. I really appreciate your finesses in dealing with brides as well as your obvious desire to delight them. I know what a wonderful feeling it is when one does so!

Bravo!

David, I just watched your show for the first time today. The episode was with the bride that had a "Diamond White Wedding". You made it amazingly beautiful. I am sure everyone descrbes your work with very discriptive words, but I am wondering what words I can say to get you to pick my wedding to host? Dave and I are planning our ceremony this coming March in the Garden District in New Orleans. I know you would be able to do some special things at the location we have chosen. Anyhow, looking forward to hearing what you have to say about my request.

My name is Gina Gibbons. My fiance and I are getting married November 15th 2009. I would be the first one in my immediate family to have a "real" wedding. My mother and my brother never had a traditional wedding and I would like to be the first to have one. Finances are very limited right now so we are trying to do what we can to make it beautiful and also memorable. I need your help! My mother is unable to help me at this time because she is recovering from spinal surgery and has been out of work for some time. I am all alone on this and do not know where to turn. Please help!

Hi David,
My daughter's wedding is sept. 24th 2011. She is very outdoorsy, she loves rifle and archery hunting. We're planning a kinda big 300 people wedding. She would love to somehow incorporate the outdoor theme, but keep the wedding elegant...sounds like a daunting task!! We want it to be elegant, BUT, try to put their personalties into the theme too. I did buy her a camo garter set, but that's as far as i'lll take the camo theme!!! .She also decided on individual pumpkin pies for favors. Her colors scheme will be orange gold and red. My biggest fear is that it will be tacky and not the elegant wedding she so much deserves. We would VERY much appreciate and help or ideas you could give us!! Thanks sooo much.

David,
My name is Keela Hopson. My fiance and I are planning to get married within the next year. This will be the first time either of us will be getting married. I am the type of girl who never has been the girly girl type. I have always been a tom boy. I would like to have a small country wedding, but i really don't know where to start cause i never really done this kind of thing before. The only thing that I have really choosen for the wedding is the location, which is at my 46 arce farm. And I really don't know what a good budget is for a beautiful wedding, money is very tight in these parts. I really need your help! It would be a blessing if you would help us out on our perfect day. I don't know what else to do.

David,
My Fiance and I are planning an October 2 2010 wedding with a Starry Night theme. We are from a very small town and I am having difficulty finding decorations that are elegant and reasonably priced. I am also a little concerned because all of the wedding colors I see are pastel type colors or natural colors and unfortunately, I am just not thrilled with those types of colors. I would like to use Deep rich colors such as cobalt blue, black and silver, but I do not want these to be tacky or too dark and gothic looking.
I would like a whimsical and romatic feel. We have a tighter budget. Please help, We are lost!!

Dear David,

My fiance and I are getting married December 30th, 2009 at the Gran Melia Resort in Puerto Rico. My fiance and I met last year overseas while serving on a deployment. He was from Puerto Rico and I am from Ohio. I never imagined I would meet someone while working in the desert but it happened and I have never been so thankful. Last December my fiance moved from PR to Ohio and we have been trying to make ends meet. He has an upcoming deployment in which he will be gone for 7 months. We decieded that we would like to get married before he deploys. We also wanted to get married in Puerto Rico because he has a larger family than I do and it would be more cost efficient for his family to attend if we get married there. A large amount of our wedding budget is going to be paid with his upcoming deployment. We were fortunate to book one of the most beautiful locations in all of Puerto Rico for our wedding but with such a large amount of our budget going towards the location and food if leaves very little for decorating. I would love some advice on how to create an amazing atmosphere on such a small budget.
Thanks so much.

Dear David,

I'm gettting married on September 25, 2010 to the man I love. I love the idea of a black & white wedding with purple as an accent color. However, I'm at a loss on how to accomplish this. I've heard about having a theme but I cannot think of one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I love your show. I watch with my sisters (there's 5 of us total).

Wonderful David,

You are so amazing. I wish I could have a friend as wonderful and as caring as you.
I have a somewhat normal but important question. My hopefully soon-to-be fiance called me the other day at work after finding out that the typical cost of a wedding is near $15,000. After discussing rings and honeymoons and many other wants a few weeks prior to his revelation, he was pretty freaked out. While there is no ring YET, we have decided that we would want a smaller than large (does that make sense?) wedding. My father is a minister and would probably marry us. There is a garden called the Dallas Arboretum that I want to use for an outdoor wedding. I love simplicity, but this will be my wedding day, and of course you understand the importance. How can we wow our family and closest friends without shocking our bank accounts? And at the same time, how can we save money without my wishing that we had done more?

I hope that you will be able to help me in person one day, but maybe some pointers in the meantime? I hope to stay in touch! Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Most sincerely and respectfully,

Elena Yvonne

Dear David,
My husband and I are planning the wedding we never had for May 2010. It will be our 25th anniversary and since our son pasted away last year it has made us realize that life is too short to not have the wedding we have laways wanted. We are very limited on funds and are in need of ideas for a vow renewal. I would also like to somehow bring his memory into the renewal along with my living kids and grandkids. PLEASE HELP!!
PS: I would really like to see a vow renewal show someday

Hi David

I love your show! I have a question I am hoping you can help me with. I want to wear my mothers wedding dress on my wedding day. I do not have a date set yet, sometime in May 2011. I found the dress in a shopping bag in my parents basement. My parents would have been married 35 years this coming December. My mom passed away August 30, 2009. David, I have to wear this dress. We always talked about it as I was growing up & it will make me feel as if even a bigger part of her is at my wedding. I live in Queens, NY & was wondering if there was anywhere you could recommend of where I could bring it to get cleaned. I know you have a warehouse in Mamaroneck. It has some stains & is definitely dirty. Any help you could provide I would appreciate. I am willing to travel to get this cleaned as long as I know it can be done.

Thanks so much David,
Shannon

Hi David,
I love your show! I don't know if you are taking any new cases, but I just thought I'd ask. My sister is getting married on the 31st. of Oct, and she is having a lot of problems. After finding the right guy and hoping to make this the perfect wedding, my father has surprised her by now saying he will not help her anymore with the payments. A lot of things are going on right now and he is breaking this family into pieces. Anyway, She is at the point where stress is taking over instead of happiness and hopefully, the different businesses will take payments after the wedding is over. I would just like her to have a beautiful day to remember, without the worry.

Hi David,

I am having a wedding on July 3, 2010. My colors are green and purple. I thinking about putting purple organza on every other table and using purple chair ties. How do i bring the green theme into my wedding reception? What type of flowers will fit well as a center piece and be relatively inexpensive? I have about 20 tables to decorate. How do I manage a mother and god mother who are at 2 extremes? One wants to make everything (garage sale) and the other wants but the best of everything (penthouse). Finally, my fianace wants a punch fountain and I don't. What are some of the alternative could be offered to him instead?

Hello David!
First I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy watching your show, I record it as to not miss an episode.

My question to you is......I am getting ready to celebrate my 20th Wedding Anniversary and every 10 years we re-dedicate ourselves to one another. This year is going to be even more special since we were just teenagers when we were first married. All of this being said, I have a suggestion for you and your show.....how about a re-dedication ceremony for people like myself and husband. Who may have not had the dream wedding but so far beaten the odds and are still going strong. It would be neat to see the original wedding pictures and see the celebration of marriage 10, 20,30 years or more later. Celebratioon beating today's odds of still being together.

Hope this will be an idea for a future episode as I am sure it would interesting to watch.

Thanks again!
Donna

David-
I absolutely love your show. I would like to know the name of the designer who made the bridesmaid dresses that you picked for this evenings eposide (10-11-09)? I want for all my bridesmaids to feel comfortable regardless of their sizes and I'm currently having problems finding a dress that would work for all of them and the dress you picked tonight really seems like something that may work for all my girls.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi David:

My question is How can I make our wedding day more special than just saying I do? Is it appropriate to wear a wedding dress? I have the dress picked out. Our cake planned out. As well as our colors. We don't have the money to go all out like the brides on platium weddings. Do you have any advice?

HI, I am planning on having a 1960's style wedding. I want you to walk in to my wedding and think you just went back in time. This is not my first wedding but I never had the nice pretty wedding. I just dont know how to put it all together. How do I make you feel you have went back in time to the 1960's.? Any tips on how to make my dream come true?

Hi David, I'm getting married July 8,2010; finally I have been engaged for years! Something stopped us from walking the aisle and we put it off until I said its time. My budget is really tight. I'm setting my theme to go with the venue which is rustic. I'm using aqua, pale yellow and sage green as my colors. I want to use flowers in season but I don't know how to make them work with these small rectangular crates I have; I also have small flameless candles to add to them. Do you have any tips? Also for the groom's wear my fiancee and I compromised on it he refuses any neckwear. My question is do you recommend any styles for the warm weather season. We will be outside during the ceremony in Mass. My daughters will be a part of the wedding as well, the youngest who is 3 will be the flower girl, my oldest who will be 9 is a Jr bridesmaid but my 6 year old I'm not sure of she competes with her older sister alot how do I make her feel her role is important too without making her think she is stuck with her younger sister? Anyway you can help me would be great. Thank you Danielle

david, I am very thankful that you are around. I have never met you or even talked to you but I watch your show to help my husband-to-be and I get some ideas. He gets so excited when he sees what you do to the venues he is trying to figure out what to do with ours. We have been together for 13 wonderful and hard years. We have three children together and are finally getting married. I can't wait,I knew I was going to marry him the first day I met him. The only thing I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to give him the venue that he wants. I'm so afaid that I am going to be able to do it right and I want to make this his day, too. He is hispanic and I am not,but I love his family like they are my own. He has given me three beautiful blessings and now I want to give him one. Our wedding date has been changed to Sept.11,2010,so we can get the venue that is easier for his dad who is having a hard time health wise. Any thing you could help me with would be wonderful. If you don't have time I understand you're a very busy man. No matter what I thank you for listening to my problem. Samantha O.

Hi David, my name is Jennifer...my wedding is planned to be June 26th of 2010 and things are getting hectic..I just recently heard about the show and have been taping every episode and am mesmerized with your amazing wedding transformations to say the least! I am originally from Yonkers NY and moved to middletown NY 6 years ago. I am 37 weeks away and completely overwhelmed and not even close to having anything done :( PLEASE DAVID HELP ME!!!!!! I DON'T KNOW HOW or WHAT TO DO!!

Hi David ive been married for 7 yrs. we went to the courthouse and got married. My hubby wants a very nice anniversary party in 8-09-2010. We love sage and blue and pink but i dont know where to start. We have limited funds and live a simple life where to start?

My dilemma: I want a very elegant wedding and I would really like to wow people. My theme is fall but I am struggling with decor that is not only cost effective but has that wow factor. A lot of the things I am using are fake because we can't afford real flowers beyond the bouquets and boutonnieres plus real fall leaves are no longer very beautiful when they are aren't attatched to the tree. The fall leaves I have (although fake) are very vibrant but is that enough? I am also using some bittersweet to decorate that is fake. Any advice would be helpful! Looking forward to seeing more things on your show that could make my wedding a unique, memorable experience. Anyway that on the show you could take a moment and make a suggestion of how to do a particular aspect to that degree but cost efficiently? I LOVE your weddings but always feel it is unrealistic for myself (unless you wanna come clean up mine ;-p...its in October of 2010). Thanks!

Is there ANY dresses out there with SLEEVES!!!! I am maid of honor in a 5/2010 wedding. I am a bigger girl who wants my arms covered. I dont like the "shawl" attached to a straples dress. I dont want a jacket that looks like its just there to cover my arms. I dont want to wear a reject dress from some King Arthur movie, I would like a dress with a sleeve that comes to the elbow. I have been in Plus Size fashion for 25 years and I cant believe how hard it is to find a pretty dress.

My bride would also like to have sleeves on her wedding dress. But we cant even find one sample to try on. She is of average size but would prefer to have upper arms covered.

We live in NJ. Any help out there?
thank you.

I have lived with my Fiancé for about three years now and we have accumulated everything we need. Is there a way were we can politely ask for money instead of gifts or is that a NO NO. Thank You

Hi David, although I plan weddings all the time, I am suddenly faced with building anxiety about my own wedding. Because I am 39 years old, have no children and will be a first time bride, family and friends are already putting pressure on me about my plans for this wedding. My fiance and I want this to be everything we ever wanted but because we have such a large family, so many friends and well established relationships with co-workers, we anticipate at least 300 guests which puts a damper on our ability to host our nuptials and reception in a more upscale venue. We currently have booked a reception hall in Maryland which will accomodate the number of guests and won't put us in the poor house. With that, I intend to do a lot of the planning myself and us family and friends talents as well. The colors I have chosen for the October 23, 2010 ceremony and reception are Chocolate, Champagne and Orange hues from bright to lighter shades (like peach). What are your thoughts on using lighting in this hall to give it a better appeal and also what other suggestions do you have for improving a plain large space. I have a thosand other questions but I'm just so undecided at this time.

I have a friend who is getting married on November 21, 2009. She has been planning her wedding since July of this year. Since she has recently lost her job we are afraid she will not be able to continue with the wedding. What is the best way to make her dream come true, yet within her now smaller budget? Her colors are mint green and African lilac.

Hi David, I love your show. PLEASE tell your brides to hold their bouquets DOWN low infront of their waiste, not up by their chest. It looks A LOT better especially for pictues. For some reason most brides hold their bouquets way too high. You'll notice it all the time now I've mentioned it. Also, a bride won't faint if she bends her knees and no one will notice if her skirt is big.
Cheers,
Kerry

Hi David, it is a pleasure watching your show. You are such an amazing person inside and out. I admire your work and your caring personality. My boyfriend and I of almost 7 years are planning on getting married. Our relationship began as a blind prom date in high school. Since then we have made mistakes, learned from them and each other, grown with each other, and can't stand to be away from each other. Granted it hasn't been all "peaches and cream", there has been more good than bad. I often daydream about having a "fairly tale" wedding of soft pinks/lilacs,elegance, beauty, and sophistication. My only problem is that I'm not sure if it would turn out right. I can sacrifice changing my theme to achieve elegance, beauty, and sophistication. I think someone as creative and experienced as yourself would know if this is the right path to take.

Sincerely,
Tese

David, David, David, I love your show and your work. Here is my problem my wedding is June 5, 2010 I already had to change the date once and from the looks of it I will have to change it again reason being my employment status has changed and my hubby to be and I are paying for the wedding and he is paying for the honeymoon, the venue that was selected for an outdoor wedding and an indoor reception beautiful location but with the money being an issue I had to cancell the location and l lost my deposit. Now I am having trouble finding a hall that will allow me to cater my own food and drinks that is within my price range, I also have to find a outdoor location for my outdoor wedding. Then there is the dress, my mother is paying for the dress I love but they only have it in white so I had to change the colors which was champagne and ivory. Do I have to change the colors since my dress color is white with pearls and crystals? My theme is Winter Wonderland in Spring time what would be a good color for my girls dresses. PLEASE HELP ME I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE FUN:(

Dear David,
My wedding is June 26th 2010 and my fiance and I are planning on having a 1950's feel to our wedding. Our colors are red (possibly with baby blue or aqua accents), black, pure white (to match his Navy Uniform) and silver. We really want to try and infuse my fiance's Navy side with the old USO look and my glam side with an old Hollywood feel. For our invitations we even have a picture of us re-enacting the famous Kiss picture! If you have some more ideas on how we can incorporate some of these feels into the wedding ceremony and reception they would be very welcome. We want it to have an up-scale feel, but a fun vibe at the same time. Please help if you can. Thank you

Hi David! I don't normally get on web sites and type personal things, but I am hoping you can offer me alot of advice here. I am 45 years old and have never married. I finally met my soul mate... the man of my dreams. We want to get married, but I am dealing with my father who has dementia and is in his 80's and my mother who constantly cares for him inbetween her dr's appts. and I feel everything is on my shoulders. It seems we don't have enough time or money to plan what we want, and if we actually do plan it after all this time, my father thinks we are already married! I don't want to continue with a long drawn out story, but will you please offer me some suggestions on what I should do here? Where do I start? Is there a simple way to have a small but elegant wedding without all the expense and hassle? All of my friends married at much younger ages and they all had very expensive, elegant, large weddings. How will they feel if I leave them out? I just can't get beyond everything to get my dream day planned. See my dilemma?!?!?! HELP please! I know you can guide me in the right direction and offer me some good advice that will help me... Thanks in advance for your time and consideration. I really appreciate it!

Dear: David

My name is Natassja and i am 26yrs old my fiancee name is Albert. This is my second marriage and I want it done beautifully, My first marriage was at 16 in city hall and I was wearing someone elses dress that was two times my size, I had no reception in fact I want to work at kmart. My fiancee is trying so hard to give me the dream wedding I have always wanted, But with 2 kids in school ages 8 and 10 are wedding budget is on a tight lease if you get my drift lol. My wedding budget is about $5000. and I am trying to throw a Oriental reception, My wedding cake is about $1000. (I designed it my self to interpret me and him our wedding cake is red with three tiers the top and bottom tier consists of music notes and butterfly in gold and black, and the middle tier consists of a music sheet with music notes) so that leaves me with $4000. to pay for my dress which I plan to go to china town for, my fiancees suite which I also plan to go to china town for, a venue, food, and maybe a D.J if a D.J is not possible then my Ipod will have to do. I want my wedding to be special not only to me but to my Fiancee as well, I love him to the depths of my soul and this wedding is for the both of us. He has been involved in every step of the way. I have not yet been able to find a venue with catering in Chinese food. If you have any ideas that could help me I would greatly appreciate it. I am in Bronx, NY.

Thank You

HI David,
My name is Diana and I am a future upcoming South Florida Bride. I have been Planning my own wedding for the past year and it's right around the corner. Just a few questions, my venue was what we could afford it's a very old sailboat house on the water. The ceremony will take place outdoors, and the reception under the porch which seats 140. Only expecting 70. I want a very tropical wedding, how can i transform this old boathouse into a springtime tropical retreat? My dream is more then my pocket (lol) . We love the ocean and it is what has inspired our wedding theme. Can the bridesmaids wear all long dresses that are not the same style, as long as the colors match. My gown is ivory and the wedding colors are two shades of tropical blues. We have silver as our accent color with shades of coral as well. Do i have to much going on? Thanks for your help David as it's been quite a struggle for me all alone, i am really feeling the stress, we all want our special day to be picture perfect. I lay awake many nights taking in the thought of how this will all turn out, and i get a relaxed feeling that seems to soothe me!
With much love

Thank You
Natassja

Dear David,
I am essentially a single mother of three as my husband is not able to be with us. I work three part time jobs just to not be able to make ends meet! My oldest daughter Natasha has set a wedding date of 10/10/2010. She understands how I'm struggling and is trying to do everything herself and it breaks my heart! She has all these big dreams for a beautiful fall wedding, but then I see the decorations she is picking and I shudder. She found these tiny plastic pumpkins on sale for 79 cents and she intends on using them in her centerpieces. I'm sure most of her ideas could work out beautifully, but I need some advice on how to decorate on a very slim budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you so much!! Lynn

Hi David ~

HELP!! Came back from my floweriest and was disappointed with the sample centerpiece that they created. During my initial meeting I expressed my lack of knowledge of flowers but did share that I wanted white/ivory and silver centerpieces as the wedding is this New Years Eve. I did not want winter wonderland or too romantic but got blah. Anyway trying to get inspirations/photos/suggestions to best express my vision to the floweriest of an chic New Years Wedding centerpiece. Less than two months for my wedding. Thanks, Gracias & Merci (Colombian & French wedding!)

Hi David! My name is Shelby, I'm 24 years old and I'm finally getting ready to tie the knot May 21, 2011! It's been a long time coming for me. We've had to put off getting married because I needed back surgery. I had my surgery in late June and it went well. Now that we've made the commitment, I've been going around and around in circles trying to pick elegant colors for a spring wedding. I've chosen Ivory, Gold, and Black with the only touches of pink being in the flowers. I LOVE pink, but my fiance hates pink and think it looks "cheap." He's at least agreed that I could have pink flowers. My biggest dilemma has been choosing appropriate bridesmaid dresses. I really don't want them to wear black because it's a spring wedding, but I also wouldn't want them to wear ivory dresses because I don't want it to take the attention away from me. Gold dresses are simply out of the question because it won't look good on a pale-skinned woman. I've come to a kind of compromise by picking an ivory dress with a black sash. I've even pondered having them wear a shorter dress (knee length or slightly longer) because it is a spring wedding. I'm really trying to find a style of dress that complements my dress (Maggie Sottero's Monalisa). I love my dress because it's the quintessential "princess" dress. When I look at my dress I automatically think Cinderella. I'm trying to go for a storybook garden wedding. Your opinion really matters to me because every one of the weddings I've seen you do on TV has been so beautiful and that's what I'm trying to go for without breaking the bank! I really want to impress my husband-to-be (he's been picky about certain aspects) so any suggestions you have are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Thank you so very much! :)

Dear David, My niece is getting married next July. Here wedding will be in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (not known for it's sophistication). She is a very large lady and 1) has chosen a gown that does not flatter her 2) Her bridesmaid dresses will be something called Mermaid in color (sort of a sea foam green and teal) 3) I'm fairly sure that the reception will be in a Moose Hall or some kind of building on that order and that she, her family, and her bridesmaids will be doing the decorating. My brother's company has felt the economic crunch and he really doesn't have a lot to spend on a wedding. She is special to me and I would like to see her have a nice wedding. Her family favors her younger sister and she has never received the kind of encouragement she deserves. Her mom and sister are in charge. Help is there anything I can do! I will probably not be attending since I live so far away and am handicapped and can't fly. You are such a miracle worker, suggestions PLEASE!

David,

I've been having a difficult time envisioning what I want for my wedding. My fiancee and I love the outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains. The problem is, we are having the wedding near our families, who live in the flattest possible part of the Midwest. I would LOVE to have an outdoor wedding, but this is completely impractical. I am a teacher and my fiancee is finishing grad school. Since we are having the wedding in a different state from the one in which we live, the only time that really works with our schedule is summer. Every indoor location in our area was booked for all of next summer (2010) when we began looking for a reception site in mid-July of this year, except one. Although our venue is a bit dated and lacks character (a hotel conference room), I've heard the service and food are far and away the best in the area. The only date that place had available was at the beginning of August, which is usualy a very very warm and humid time of year there. This is not Reno. It is not dry and sunny all the time. I just can't put myself through the stress of having to worry about rain in such an unpredictable climate.

Recently, you did an episode of My Fair Wedding in which you incorporated an Enchanted Forest theme. If we can't go outdoors to have the wedding in the kind of environment we like, maybe we can bring the feel of magical pine forests indoors! I love it; it's perfect for us!

I was actually considering doing gold and jewel tones..... until, get this..... I found out the dress I had ordered was the EXACT same dress my finacee's cousin is wearing for her wedding!!! Fortunately I was able to cancel the order that same day, and I've been looking for another dress since. The new dress I'm considering doesn't seem to go with the bold colors very well or the outdoors feel. It's a light satin ballgown style, which is completely the opposite of what I thought I'd like, but I'm short (5'5"), fuller figured (wedding dress size 14), and I have a very well-defined waist. I love the close-fitting modified mermaid styles, but given that I have a relatively short torso and I carry a lot of weight on my lower half, it's hard to find a dress in that style that fits well. On the other hand, the ballgown dresses, I must admit, look pretty amazing on me. So the dress I'm looking at now is a ballgown in a very slightly taupish-pinkish color with gorgeous embroidery and crystal beadwork that sparkles all shades of pink and blues in the sunlight. Although I love deep reds, plums, and coral pinks best, I think I could do irridecent lilacs, sage, mauves and cremes with this dress, instead. I also think I could do similar centerpieces to the ones in Lauren's wedding if I replace the beautiful jewel-tone flowers with more subdued colors (think tons of hydrangeas). I really wish I could see some of the decor from that wedding again.

Please, please post more pictures from the weddings on past episodes on My Fair Wedding!! I think they would provide great inspiration of those of us planning our own weddings! Thanks!

Hi David,

My name is Myesha and I am getting married in May of 2010. I am beginning my planning but i'm already stressed. I am an only child and the oldest grandchildren so because of this, my whole family feels that they have say in what is done in my wedding. I feel like i'm loosing control of what I want. The ideas that I have are not what my mother and aunties want, and since they are helping financially, I feel that I have to let them have what they feel is best and I don't think thats fair to me. I have just started planning and I already want to go and alope! please help me David!

I am getting married in June of 2010 and I am completely lost. Everything is so hard and I keep trying to make everyone happy. My bridesmaids, my mother and of course my fiance. Everything has been so difficult from my dress, to the bridesmaids dresses to where and when we are getting married. I need help but hate to ask anyone. My biggest fear is that my wedding won't be beautiful because I am a heavy set girl. I just want my one special day.

default userpic

I hear ya girl! Just remember, this is my second wedding. A bride knows when she found the perfect dress. Once you find the dress, everything will fall into place. Don't worry about making everyone else happy. Remind them this is about you and your soon-to-be husband's day. They don't like it, kiss them good-bye.

Dear David, is it ever okay to use paper plates, cups, and plastic silverware at a wedding? We are having a formal wedding, but the reception, is well a picnic, everyone brings a dish to pass, not so formal. We are having a beach theme wedding and it will be outside. I just hope it does not rain on June 25, 2011

Hi David, I was just wondering when open asting is for the next seasons of your show??? Thank you ...

I think they need to have a new bridal show. I see all these women that are newly weds having such elaborate wedding and then I see my friends renewing there vows and its just a simple thing. for those who had a fabulous wedding in the first place that is great but I think a show called the "the wedding I always wished for" or "the wedding I never had" or "renewing our vows in style". something like that done by david for women like me that never really had an elaborate wedding would be so fabulous. I always wanted the big wedding but never had the money and now after 26 years I have asked my husband if we could renew our vows but of course he's not that enthused, I would like the chance to have a real wedding like the ones that David does but never in my life have I had the finances. after going through cancer I have changed my ideals alot and I really want to renew my vows to renew some of the romance that we have lost through the years. but most of all I think all in all a TV show like this one would be so amazing for women like myself. Its just an idea but if you ever gave it a thought I personally think it would make a great show.

Hey David.. As all the brides here.. I love you and your show.. It is awesome! Thank you for your great ideas. I know you currently are not casting for the show, but had some questions that maybe you'd be able to provide me with some guidance. So i am getting married on July 17, 2010. My fiance and I met at and graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY (approx. 1hr 20 min from NYC) and will be having our ceremony at the campus chapel. We thought that having a red, black, and white wedding color theme would be ideal since those are the same school colors. Im getting some resistance from my mom and some of the bridesmaid who think that black for a summer wedding is "tacky" and will look more like a funeral. I wanted to have the bridesmaids in black tea length dresses. Wasnt sure what color of the flowers should be, or the color of the mothers' dresses should be to compliment the bridal party. I dont know if our "alma mater" theme using the school colors is a bit much for the summer. We are going more for simplicity. Hope you are able to provide some guidance..

Thank you in advance

Hi David,
I have a suggestion for DianeTheLibrarian. Depending on your theme, perhaps you can get a local drama group or dance group to volunteer their time as "characters" or create a routine to entertain your guests. Try the local colleges or high schools. It will be good as practice and a teaching tool for dealing with the public... maybe look great on a resume with a letter from you saying how wonderful they were.

A comment for you, David. Have you ever considered doing a program for other occasions, like birthdays? I have a daughter turning 21 in January and would like to do something special. I imagine anniversaries would be good as a program as well. But I want to do something really big and need help in getting freebies from others because I am disabled and still trying to get my disability benefits (taken 3 years so far). So if you have suggestions on how I can go about making it happen for her, I'm all ears.

Thank you for bringing some joy into my life with My Fair Wedding. I really enjoy it and have learned a great deal from the show (not to mention seeing how the other half lives. WHO KNEW?).

Hello David,
I love your show and watch every Sunday. I am recently engaged and we are in the beginning stages of our wedding. We have not set a date yet, but plan to get married next year 2010. My question to you is this, I am not really into flowers and would like some ideas for centerpieces. What other options can I use and still have an elegant reception. My colors are Ivory, champagne, and chocolate brown. I do plan to use real flowers for all of the bouquets. Thanks for your help. AJ

Hi David,
I am a new wedding planner. and Had my 4th wedding last night. everything was beautiful and was on time. the problem I ran into is the couple had a 4 hour open bar. the venue stopped serving alcohol after 2 hours. many of the guest had way to much to drink and were very intoxicated. the bride and Groom were upset. with in 20 minutes of the bar not serving, 90% of the guest left. how would you have handled the situation between the venue , guest and the bride and groom?
Thank you

Hello David. I would like to know what happens to the dresses that the bride and bridesmaids already have. Who pays for all the new things for the wedding?

Dear David most of the weddings and comments have been about brides and their fantasy weddings. My crazy beautiful niece Melissa had planned a wonderful wedding and proceeded to get an ulcer from all that planning and then cancelled it due to the fact that her fiance was cheating on her. When her aunt, my older sister got married my niece Melissa gave her her wedding dress that she had spent a lot of money and sweat over. Fast forward to the here and now, Melissa has a really wonder new fiance named Johnny and he's the one that wants to have the fantasy wedding. All Melissa wants is to have her grandma Carmen at the ceremony. Johnny wants to have his grandfather stand up for him and the big wedding with the tux and whole nine yards. They were going to start planning their wedding when Johnnys brother lost his job in the midths of putting together his own wedding and Johnny stepped up and help his brother out. I wish I could help them but I take my mom to Dialysis 3 days a week and have had to cut my hours at work, my mom can't help because she only has social security to live on. We both wish that you could help these two wonderful kids. Have a great day and hope you can make it out to California soon.

Hello, David Tutera,
My name is Cherish and I was wondering if you could tell me the designer of the reception gown that you picked out for Jamie Ferris wedding? I fell in love with the style of that dress while it was still hanging on the hanger during your show and i would love to have one of my own for my wedding day.

Dear David;
My name is James and i am planning on marrying the lovely Shericka Lamb in August of 2010. We have been engaged for a little under a year now and during this year I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure after suffering a heart attack. My question to you is, do you know any venues in the Long Island area that are not too costly? Our bill priorities have changed now since i am paying off hospital debts. I am looking to you for answers because my fiance is absolutely in love with your show and the wonderful weddings you create. please help!!

David,

I'm 25 and planning a June 2010 elegant beach themed wedding in upstate NY. I’ve spent so much time on the internet looking for centerpiece ideas but haven’t come across anything that really speaks to me. I’ve even tried to come up with my own ideas using sand, sea shells and candles but I can’t seem to put anything together that stands out. I really want my guests to say “WOW” when they see our centerpieces. I’m not a huge fan of tall centerpieces or a lot of flowers. Our colors are fuschia, black and white. Could you please provide some guidance on how to create centerpieces that will give that will give that “WOW” factor based on our theme??

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi David,
First things first, I LOVE YOUR SHOW!!!! If my daughter finds out I have contacted you, lets just say, the mother of the bride will not be at the wedding. Just like any other bride to be, my daughter Megan wants an elegant wedding reception. Her dad (we're divorced) is providing the venue...local fire hall, cheap...free to members. Well nothing elegant has ever taken place in a fire hall. It is drab, outdated and entirely too large for the amount of guests. We had considered draping, but that is too costly. OK, we compromised and agreed due to the financial aspect this hall would have to do. This being the 4th wedding my child has planned and is still not married, we are all holding our breath to see if our runaway bride strikes again. Needless to say, that over the course of a few years, we have all lost deposits from vendors etc when the weddings got called off. That being said, we are all a little gun shy at this point to put out more funds for Megan's day. To add insult to injury, she now has to sell her home and move all during the planning phase of her wedding. Her big day is 10 April 2010 and it is fastly approaching. Of course, I want my child to have a beautifully elegant day, but how do we do this on such a tight budget. We really need you David!!!! I am sure you have heard this from many brides to be and their moms, but I am thinking about running away myself. There is so much to do and so much that could go wrong. Is there any way that you could email me some suggestions or advise us directly about what we have done so far. So far we have: church, hall, caterers(food, cakes & linens only), florist, Dj, Photographer (a friend from my work). we are doing our own centerpieces. Please email me at dancingaunt@yahoo.com.
thanks for any ideas you may have, we need them.
Almost Runaway Mother of the Bride!

Hi David,
I just want you know that you are truly a bride-to-be's best friend. Your inspirations that turn lives around for couples on their wedding day is so touching, it just brings tears to my eyes! I've been with my boyfriend for 14 years. We've been blessed with 2 sons (6 and 1 years old) and have a house of our own. We talked about marriage but no engagement and planning yet. Our 6 year old gets really excited when he hears us discussing and always say "If you love each other you should just get married!" And my boyfriend and I would just look at each other and smile. We both, however, want a small wedding if we do plan to marry (125 to 150). Although at times I wished I could have that dream wedding someday. Would it be wrong if we didn't have a wedding party--just myself, boyfriend, and 2 sons? Or do we need a best man and maid-of-honor? I would love to hear your suggestions. What do you think?
Thanks David...

David,
What you did for Bernadette's and hubby's wedding was so tasteful and magnificent!
Bernadette is such a sweetheart and they are such a humble, loving couple. There could not have been a better choice for the show.
I have never seen such an awesome African heritage wedding in my life!
Kudos!

MR TUTERA,
I'M IN DIRE NEED OF YOUR EXPERTISE!!! MY HUSBAND AND I GOT MARRIED AT THE JUSTICE OF THE PEACE AND DIDN'T HAVE A RECEPTION. I'M NOW IN THE MIDST OF PLANNING A 1ST YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PARTY SLATED FOR 02/20/2010, AND WAS WONDERING IF IT IS TACKY OR CHILDISH TO DECORATE THE ROOM WITH A BANNER, BALLOONS, CURLING RIBBON, STREAMERS AND CONFETTI. WE ARE ON A TIGHT BUDGET AND ALTHOUGH I WANT TO KEEP IT INEXPENSIVE AS POSSIBLE, I DON'T WANT TO BE LAUGHED AT EITHER...ANY ADVICE FROM YOU WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! I WATCH YOUR SHOW AND YOU DO SUCH WONDERFUL WORK, PLEASE RESPOND ASAP AS I'M STARTING TO PULL MY HAIR OUT WITH WORRY BECAUSE MY DATE IS APPROACHING FAST!!

Dear Mr. Tutera,

First, allow me to gush about your masterful creativity in creating breath-taking environments from often discordant themes. I particularly appreciate the level of respect, kindness and diplomacy you demonstrate weekly. It is refreshing to witness such gentlemanly behavior on television.

I prefer sophistication and simplicity to fussiness and frou-frou. I have chosen The Harrison Opera House lobby as the venue for our 2010 evening wedding party:
http://www.vaopera.org/html/venues/norfolk_rental_information.cfm

I would like a lounge type of seating arrangement, but am having difficulty finding a supplier for the seating rental for this type of event locally. Do you have any alternative suggestions for capturing the flavor of a lounge with readily available, standard-type of rental seating?

My fiance will be wearing a white dinner jacket with a thin-ish black bowtie. The second dress from Pronovias with the marabou shrug would be perfect for me, can you tell me who designed it? Their site is a huge labyrinth.

I intend to decorate primarily with a sea of white candles and only a few gardenia blossoms scattered about here and there. Or perhaps a single white calla lily. Or both? Any other suggestions?

Thank you so much in advance for any time and assistance you could graciously lend me,
Kelly
xoxo

David, Love your show. I have a question: My daughter is getting married in May, 2010. She has selected a beautiful princess style ballgown wedding dress. It is very fancy and fits her small, petite body well. My concern is with the bridesmaid dresses. She has selected a strapless, black, waisted dress that barely touches the knee in a plain fabric. The bridesmaids range in age from 12 through 32 and sizes 2 through 18. I have suggested that the bridal gown sets the tone for the wedding and that the brides maids need fancy gowns also. She likes the black dresses and thinks they are cute. They are but not for this venue. Any help on this? MOB(mother of

Hi David,
I am a huge fan of your show, it's absolutely delicious. I don't think an episode goes by without shedding a tear. I got married back in 2007 and OH how I wish I would have known more about you then!
My Wedding:

Backyard wedding (my sister-in-law's house), patio chairs (the cheap plastic one's you buy anywhere!!), some were white and some were green, soda cans, plastic cups, plastic dinnerware, Mexican buffet dinner with huge plastic silverware, cakes from Costco, my sister-in-law's friend took our pics (not a professional photographer unfortunately), I don't like how my pictures came out, my daughter (flower girl) fell asleep, none of the guests danced, we couldn't invite all of our family, my dress was on sale for $89. This is our second marriage and although the wedding was not the one from my dreams, I did marry a wonderful man that loves not only me but my two children.

I know that I will be using all your fabulosity towards my daughter's wedding! (She is only 5 right now though) :)That is FOR SURE!!

Continued success! And keep those wonderful stories coming!!

Hi, David, I enjoy your show so much! It is thrilling to see the transformation these brides go through.
They become beautiful, confident, and radiant: they know that you have blessed them with your humor, your thoughtfulness, your skill!
Thank God you have saved them from toting tacky parasols, plastic bridal bouquets, plastic cups (plastic anything), spider decor, too tight or too large dresses, fake flame torches and jousting -- and a reception at the firehouse! Ga!
My niece Katrina is trying to win a wedding cake through a promotion on Facebook (any other readers can go to Lush Couture cakes on Facebook and vote for her! You can read her story there, too.)
Katrina is a social worker in Oakland, CA. She got engaged this summer, and she is trying to plan her wedding with very limited funds. They are a sweet, fun-loving couple who are very outdoors-adventurous. Katrina hiked the John Muir trail solo this summer; weeks of hiking and mountain-climbing. Her fiance Chad is also an avid mountain-climber.
I live in Seattle. Most of our family lives back east. Katrina and Chad chose to marry in California because so many of their friends live there, and that is their home; we all respect that.
I had heard that Katrina was looking for a venue, so we didn't have a wedding date until I received her "save the date" card in the mail last week. I was expecting to read that her wedding was going to take place in Berkeley. Instead, I read that it is going to take place in June, 2010 in Suisun City, CA, in what looks like a nature preserve. I followed the link and it seems that half of this place is marshland. I understand that they partly chose this site so that their friends could stay at the campgrounds. I'm sure they are counting on a beautiful sunset, for their ceremony. But I am worried that Katrina will try to do too much, and not enjoy her day. She has a huge heart and she will be putting her guests first.
I am from Jersey, and I don't do tents, especially the night before or the night following a wedding!
My sister (the bride's mom, who lives in NY) and I will stay in a hotel. I suggested that we put up the newlyweds in a hotel for the evening of their wedding, but my sister said they intend to stay at the campgrounds, so they can have breakfast with their friends in the morning. If I know Katrina, she will cook for everyone. Everyone.
I am a distance away. I have kids so I won't be able to arrive with them until a few days before the wedding. What can I do to help her plan this wedding (without being intrusive) so she can actually enjoy it? Thank you! Janet

Hi Mr.Tutera,

My name is Danielle and I am 21 years old. My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married in the fall of 2011 and we need your help. I lost my father recently and my mother just went through cancer. We have no money and will be graduating soon. My boyfriend was born with Spina Bifida and is in a wheelchair. So our budget is next to nothing because we need to save for medical bills and to live. I know its a ways away but we have already starting planning to try and figure out a budget. Please, find it in your heart to come to San Marcos,Tx and helps us. We want a small wedding under 100 and a fruit theme. Please, please, help us!

Sincerly,
Danielle

Hi MR. David -

My name is Misty Dennis and I am inquiring about whether or not you plan vow renewals. My heart skipped a beat when I thought I had a year and 3 months to plan my parents 40 year anniversary. The thought came to mind to have them renew their vows. Thinking my siblings and I had plenty of time to save up for this special occasion. Let me tell you their wedding was not what their relationship is up to par with. They are the most in love couple I know. There's so much love and respect in their relationship it made it difficult for "us kids" to live up to in our own relationships. So sad that their 3 kids all have been married and divorced trying to create a similar relationship. I now have found my "soul mate" and we got married last year in Italy. I appreciate having a similar loving relationship like theirs. We even double date quite a bit and love my parents so much! I would love to give them something fabulous with your expertise of class and taste. Instead of their less than exciting wedding and honeymoon in Juarez.

Sincerely,
Misty

Dear David,
My name is Heather and my fiance and I are planning our wedding for Novemember of 2010. At first we were planning on having the regular large wedding w/ approximately 120 guests. After sitting down with our estimates it just wasn't feasable. We've been hit really hard with the recession and just cannot afford to entertain 100+ people. So we downsized our budget from $10000 to $3500. We both LOVED the venue we picked so we decided to keep that the same but our guest list has now been down sized to 30 people. It only consists of our parents, grandmothers, and siblings, and really this is perfectly fine with me. Neither me or my fiance likes being the center of attention of lots of people and we are very simple. Deep down I'm sure I want to have the big princess wedding but it is just not possible for us and we don't want to wait two years to have to get married. But onto my major concern, from watching your show I always see brides that have purchased items online and your reaction is typically that they are tacky. The venue we are having it at is a Victorian house that has been restored into a restaurant/wedding facilty, so there is plenty of character that we do not have to do too much. Our colors are mocha & champange and like I said before we are very simple, not flashy at all. Do you have any tips for simple decorations to spice it up just a little and add our own personal touch to the occasion. My mother keeps finding little trinket type things online and specialty type stores and I kind of cringe. Would using votive candles on the tables be enough. The reception room is beautiful as it is, with dark wood panelled walls, high cealings, fire place and oversized tables/chairs. Any input would be great. You are very inspiring to alot of brides and give a bride confidence that even weddings on a small budget can be a dream come true.
Sincerely, Heather, Jacksonville, FL
