David TuteraAs soon as I walked into Jaime Ferris' home to see this beautiful bride-to-be's wedding plans, I was stopped mid-sentence at the very start! Just her description of her plans so far was something unusual…. Jaime was ready to show me all she had for her "mummer-themed" wedding, and I had to ask…, What exactly WAS a mummer, in the first place!?

I have been planning weddings for a long time now, and never had I heard of a mummer before…, but as you can imagine …I was about to learn something new from Jaime and her fiancé, Erik, and I was going to make it work. Based on their involvement with a traditional parade famous in Philadelphia for its festive and over-the-top costumes, this colorful couple needed me to create a wedding for them that would be just as big as the celebration that inspired it.

Mummers costumes are quite impressive - the detail, the vibrant colors, and the massive use of feathers and glitter. Those materials are right up my alley for making a dramatic statement, but it's not always right for a wedding… Jaime's homemade crafty decorations had to be switched out and replaced with more wedding-styled décor that would be appropriate for their occasion yet also give the same look and feeling of a show-stopping parade… Dresses, decorations, food, flavors, the cake, the cocktails - everything needed to be on display for the attendants of Jaime's wedding who were no strangers to exuberance!

But most importantly of all - where does one stage such a big, HUGE wedding like this one? Jaime's old venue, a Delaware firehouse complete with alarms sounding at random, didn't match her out-of-the-box theme as well as I'd have liked…and I never let it rain on my brides' parades. We were off to the glitz and glamour of the Borgata Resort and Casino in Atlantic City to bring the festivities, music and dancing to life for an unforgettable, non-stop wedding that was as lively as the guests.

Join the parade and catch this all new episode of "My Fair Wedding with David Tutera."

Hi David. I'm a big fan. I am hoping this reaches you and I get a reply. I just got engaged and my fiance wants the wedding in 2011. I was hoping for Fall 2010, but he thinks it would be too expensive for us to do it sooner. Well how could we
make it less expensive on our budgets and still have a great elegant time? Oh we're expecting between 125-160 guests. Also, He's German/Czech and I'm Polish/Spanish/Mexican. How could we incorporate our heritages into our wedding?

I am a newbie to your show. I just watched "Lauren" and "Jamie". I kind of took offense to the way you made fun of not knowing what a "Mummer" was. You acted like it was strange, when in fact, the Mummer's Day Parade is an internationally known event that people come from all over the world to see every year. The organized parade is over 100 years old and the unorganized predeccessor dates back to the beginning of our country! So to answer your question, YES YOU HAVE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK!

I LOVE YOUR SHOW, DAVID TUTERA...my cousin turned me on to the show, as we are planning for my wedding ....AUG 2011. I just love your overall style. This is my first wedding (his second). I would like everything that I have dreamed for come true, but, with a low budget and with very little knowledge, would you work with me and help make this day extra special...and very rememberable.....Thank you...HOW DO YOU PICK YOUR BRIDES??????

Hi David!
I just want you to know that i A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y love love love the work you do! I am hooked to the show and I make sure I don't miss one episode. I am planning my wedding for June 2011, and although I am very excited about it, I wish you can help me make my dreams come true. Coming from a house hold, where my mom was a single mom she raised me and my twin sister to be the best we can be. We are both college students and are trying to be as successful as possible. I know deep inside my mom would LOVE to give me the wedding of my dreams, but with her health issues and financial situations i know its impossible. My fiances' father is currently battling stage 4 prostate cancer and it makes it really hard for us to save money being that he's unable to work due to him having to get radiation treatment. I hope you do take us into consideration, but with all that said I still do love the show as well as the work you do!

God Bless-

David, thank you SO much for moving that wedding out of the Delaware City Fire Hall. If you only know how many fire hall weddings I've attended in Delaware, you're head would spin. The AC venue was gorgeous and the wedding was spectacular. I hope you liked Delaware, despite the fire hall.

Paloma6598,
Hello! One of my favorite ways to make a wedding personal is by incorporating the couples' cultures, and you have plenty to work with! During the cocktail hour or reception, consider having different trays of hor'd'eouvres reflective of foods from your backgrounds passed. Ask your caterers to make dishes from some of your favorite family recipes, and explain each dish's story on menu cards to involve the guests. From interesting wines at each table to food or dessert stations, food is a great way to give everyone a "taste" of where you come from. Happy planning! -- David

Recently found this show quite by accident and I'm entranced.
** Love how you can "gently" help the bride understand that what she has planned is really NOT going to work. You are very kind in an OMG kind of way.
**WHO PAYS FOR THIS?? I keep wondering about the cost of such an extravagant event--do the vendors do in-kind for publicity/advertisement?
How about any deposits or advances paid by the couple for their planned venue, flowers, cakes, paper goods, dresses etc? Does that get refunded or just chalked up to--who cares when we get a $300,000 gig?
**How does everyone get notified that the venue is changing?
**To Michellefrnk--I, like David, had never heard of Mummers before last week. A good friend told me he was one and I thought he was telling me a deep dark secret. And then, lo and behold, that very night I turn on My Fair Wedding and there is David with the same puzzled look on his face. So, it is not as internationally known whether we live under rocks or not.
**Keep up the great work, David. You have a wonderfully sweet spirit and are giving great gifts to these couples.

Hi David,

Don't worry David...I did not know what a mummer parade was either until I started working in Philly. (I'm a New Yorker!). Eventhough you didn't know what it was at first, I liked how you incorporated into the wedding. You never over power the brides with your own style. You really listen to their vision and just take it to another level! Great job!

David~

I can understand not knowing who The Mummers are....not everyone can know everything. But maybe if you had not acted quite so shocked or, dare I say offended ~maybe there wouldn't be anyone upset. My wonderful son went to college in Philadelphia and also lives there now ~The Mummers played at the end of his commencement ceremony and it was brilliant! Everyone left not only with pride in their hearts but, with smiles on their faces!!

I have followed you for years and find you to have a brilliant style and talent. My 2 wonderful children will both be getting married in the next few years~so I as a good Mom should watch your show and others to have as much info as I can to be a great "Mother of......" I can only hope to help provide for my children the kind of wedding you show on the show as they are so beautiful.

May I make a suggestion....could you possibly do some episodes showing how to have an elegant AND economical wedding?? Not everyone has the budget of a network and the resources of you and yours behind them.

Hi David,

I truly loved this wedding. I am a addict for this show. I am getting married on 10/10/2010 and I would love to have the exact same bouquets that you used in this wedding. What was the name of the flowers used? What kind of feathers were used as well?

Thanks.
