Animal Abuse - How You Can Help
Every person has a responsibility to help those who can't help themselves--so be aware
of the animals in your neighborhood.The summer is here and it is inevitable that people are going to start locking their dogs in their cars. Cars can heat up to 140 degrees in about 25 minutes in the summertime. Cracking the window doesn't help. It's really simple--dogs shouldn't be left in an unattended car, particularly in the summer.
When I see dogs left in cars, I always debate what I should do. Should I try to get the dog out? I've never tried it and I'm pretty sure it's illegal. What I can do is call animal control to report the abuse.
Animal abuse is a crime and should be reported. But you may ask yourself--what constitutes animal abuse? The ASPCA have very comprehensive resources on animal abuse. Here are some highlights:
- General neglect--flea or tick infestation, limping, malnourishment, etc.
- Dogs left outside with no shelter, food or water
- A person physically abusing an animal
- Injured animals who have not received veterinary care
If you suspect abuse, contact your local police department. Your city, town or county law enforcement is required to investigate claims of animal abuse. If you are unsure whom you should call, try contacting your local animal control unit. If they can't take your claim, they can at least point you in the right direction. In our county, animal control is managed through the police department.
You can help reduce animal abuse by:
- Becoming a role model. Show kids how to respect animals by being kind to animals.
- Being a responsible pet owner. Keep your dog on a leash. Pick up their poop. Don't let your dog or cat roam the neighborhood. Don't chain your dog outside.
- Being vigilant. If an animal in your neighborhood is neglected, report the owner to the authorities. Start a neighborhood watch.

Please remember that animal abuse, child abuse, and elder abuse are very closely linked. By identifying situations where animal abuse is occurring, and perhaps getting some attention and services to those families, you may be preventing abuse of other types.
When children abuse animals it is very often a sign that they are victims of maltreatment and should prompt an investigation into that possibility. Neighbors, daycare workers, teachers, and other family members can truly make a difference by having the courage to recognize and report this.
We are doing worse things to our pets than American citizens and the Geneva Convention would not do to prisoners of war, yet we persecute those that would never do those things. I’m talking about zoos. I am ashamed at how the American public has treated them. In this light do you feel the same? If you do post this on dogster and answerbag and any pro neutering site you can think of. Spread this far and wide .because we have been persecuting the wrong people. Because what the American publics is doing to our pets is only what would be acceptable to terrorists. Because of the American mindset we are giving more consideration to the terrorists on how they were treated in quatonamo bay, than how our pets are treated every day. I would classify this as abuse.
I have to say this.

We call this a nation under God and The people want to be like Jesus, well if Jesus was observing a dog trying to get its rocks off, and not succeeding with what ever or with whomever, do you think that he would be laughing at the dog saying, sick or some other negative comment.? Do you think he would scold the dog? Or do you think he would be upset at the harsh and critical attitude of the people toward the dog?
My loving attitude comes from God First Then he makes me aware of the things on this earth that are cruel he helps me see ways that I might be able to really help people and the four legged creatures and to soften the hearts of men.

You are being very vague about what you consider abuse. Could you be more specific? I’ll try for you.
Lack of exercise, being chained up, confined to a small back yard, any yard, causing them to charge and bark loudly at what ever passes, Hot cars, that’s a no brainier, Using only your ego to purchase a dog. This is one big reason we have so many problems.
Giving attention to the dog when it is anxious mind reinforces that state of mind, Neglecting food or clean water. I would say excellent food, great life Rubicon, would be an excellent food, waking up your pet when he is sleeping. Are there any more things I have not mentioned there is one that we enjoy as humane creatures, I think you know what “it” is.”It “is what you deny the dogs all the time. God loves balance, neuter the dog and there is imbalance .don’t do this and not offer him relief you also create imbalance. With the child there is balance, anything interferes you know what I mean, so ,there for protect your children from people that would take advantage of them, this creates imbalance, therefore abuse.
Not introducing your dog to other dogs early in life so he sees the world as his pack.
The owner not being the alpha as taught by the dog whisperer Cesar Millan.Not having a calm submisive dog and not knowing how to train the dog to be calm submisive.
Not being a conscientious owner in choosing the dogs toys. A lot of them have lead in them. You would not give that to your human child. Over vaccinating your dog, look up vaccinosis and, when you go in to a store or something not having a soft mat for them to lie on instead of the hard pavement or concrete, tThe things that I have mentioned can cause psychological abuse and physical abuse. many of these these things are all to common .So it is no surprise that the” It” I speak of is denied,but the selfish and abusing human does not deny himself the “it”.
They are a living breathing feeling creature, treat them that way.
I have gone into the grocery store for a second and left my dog in the car, BUT he also has a bowl of water in the car at all times. He loves to ride and "pouts" if I go somewhere and leave him home. So I found a travel water bowl on a pet care web site and now Jack goes almost everywhere I go. In fact I came out of the store the other day with a fresh bottle of water to put in his bowl and a man in the car next to me started laughing. I asked him what he was laughing at and he said "Hell lady it's just a dog". I said "Maybe your dogs are just dogs but Jack is a family member and is treated that way."
