Lost Beagle Finds Loving Home in Maryland
We got a call a few weeks ago from a regular donor and supporter of GoodDogz.org. Bruce had found a beagle wandering the country road while he was vacationing with his family in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Being the dog lover that he is, he stopped and picked the dog up. The little guy had no tags and was absolutely filthy. So, as we've all done, Bruce loaded the stinky, filthy dog into his car and drove him home. After giving him several baths and a good going over, Bruce gave us a call.
Since the beagle, now named Charlie, was from another county, Bruce was kind enough to drive Charlie all the way back to the shelter near where he'd been found. He just wanted to make sure that no one was looking for the little guy. After seven days of waiting, Bruce got the call that Charlie had not been claimed. So Bruce loaded up and headed out to the Blue Ridge mountains for a third time to bring little Charlie home.
Bruce had several dogs of his own, so Mark and I offered to take Charlie off his hands and find him a good home. I admit that beagles are not my "breed", but I've got to tell you--he was one cute little dog. He was about 6 years old and really didn't bark that much. He got along with our other dogs--which was a miracle. And he was this little ball of love; like butter in your arms. After many "can we keep him" discussions with my husband, we agreed that it was better to find Charlie a family where he could be the center of attention.
So after several weeks of vetting through potential adopters, a wonderful family in Maryland called us after finding Charlie through Petfinder.com. They had a few kids, a fenced backyard and all the love in the world to give to this little guy. Since I was a little heartbroken that Charlie would be leaving us, Mark took Charlie to check out his new digs in Maryland Charlie loved it!
We get reports on Charlie and he is doing great in his new home. Apparently he's found his "voice" and loves to bark at the neighbor's dog.
A little kindness goes a long way and we applaud Bruce and Charlie's new family for taking a chance on a little lost beagle.
I wish there was more people more like Bruce finding the dog Charlie and driving the dog to Maryland.
