I can admit that I drive an SUV and I only occasionally
recycle. Shame on me. But as our environment changes and we become more and
more aware of how our actions affect it, I'm finding that the little things do
matter. I'm also leaning that it's pretty easy to help the earth simply by
paying attention to what you buy for your pets.
Having a "green" pet isn't that difficult. More and more,
pet owners are turning to natural toys, food and treats for their pets. And
retailers are offering a much larger variety of "green" merchandise. Some have
gone earth-friendly altogether! With recent scares over toxic toys and tainted dog food, what pet
owner wouldn't want to take a look at alternative ways to keep their pets safe,
happy and healthy?
So, here is my compilation of green resources that will help
you and your pet stay healthier, happier and more environmentally conscious!
Hemp collars and leashes: There are a variety of companies
making all natural hemp products for dogs. My two favorite e-tailers are Earth Dog and The Good Dog Company.
Chew Toys:Planet Dog
has a wonderful line of hardcore dog chew toys made from recyclable materials.
I have several big-time chewers in the house and they've yet to destroy these
toys.
Plush Toys:West
Paw Designs does a great job offering soft, organic plush toys.
Pet Foods: With the ongoing concern regarding pet foods, I
am reluctant to recommend a particular brand. How to Wiki and HubPages.com
both offer guides to choosing safe pet food.
"Green" Retailers: There are several pet retailers that only
sell green products: Pawlux.com, FetchDog.com and Eco
Pet are my favorites.
Information About Raising a Green Pet: Pets for the Environment is a
wonderful resource for the green pet owner.
We want our pets to be safe, healthy and happy, and we want
to be good, earth-conscious consumers. By changing your shopping habits just a
little, it's easy to be both and feel good about your choices.
Thanks for the really helpful information.
