hairpiece-152.jpgAlternatives to the traditional hairpiece.

By Vané Broussard

Lately I've noticed a trend where veils are getting shorter and shorter.  Back in the day it was all about the cathedral lenghth, sweeping swath of lace trailing behind the bride...today its more about the birdcage or a tuft of tulle.  But I'd like to think we could take this idea a step further and do something that can be reused long after the wedding dress has been packed away.  Don't get me wrong now!  I love veils, and wore a beautiful birdcage veil by Brideshead Revisited when I got married, but what I loved about my veil is that it had a detachable flower that I could use separately for the reception and beyond!  I thought this week I could introduce you to some of my favorite veil alternatives.

Handle & Spout - The lovely ladies make darling floral hairpins...I recommend using a bunch together.
Jennifer Behr - You might be familiar with Jennifer's headbands from cameo's on Gossip Girl, but this lady has an amazing bridal collection too.
Twigs & Honey - Myra designed a custom hairpiece for my rehearsal dinner, and it got rave reviews!  Her company and designs just keep getting better and better!
Foundling - Betsy makes the most adorable poppy hair pins made from recycled clothing.
Oh My Deer - Chelsea does some amazing things with flowers and feathers.
ban.do - Oh, how I wish I could own every single piece these ladies make!  I especially love the pink tuft of tulle!
