Top 10 Bridal Hair Tips

Top 10 Bridal Hair Tips

Whether your hair is short and sassy, or long and luxurious, you'll want to come up with a great do long before your I Do's. Follow these helpful tips and maybe, just maybe you won't be pulling your hair OUT on your wedding day!

1. Talk it over - Consult with your chosen hairstylist at least six months before the wedding. Ideally, bring along your headpiece and a photo of the gown, and be sure to convey the time of day and the mood of the wedding. Remember that pictures speak louder than words, so do your homework - search the internet, bridal magazines, and everywhere else for ideas that you can bring to your stylist.

2. Day or night? - Consider the time of day and the type of wedding you're having, and keep in mind that loose styles are great for informal or daytime weddings, and up-dos are best for a formal, evening affair.

3. Size matters - If you're a petite bride, think about a hairstyle that adds height. Alternately, if you and your intended are close in height, you may not want your up-do looming over him when you say your "I Do's".

4. Proportion is everything - Traditionally your veil length will influence your choice of hairstyle. Normally, the veil is longer than the hair and how it's secured is often based on the hairstyle, so it's important to make sure the style can hold the veil in place.

5. Color me "gorgeous" - Hair color looks its best the first two weeks after you color it. And remember, your wedding is NOT the time to try out those cool raspberry-colored streaks you've been thinking about.

6. To curl or not to curl - If you're getting a perm, do it at least a month before the wedding. Everyone knows that post-perm hair needs to relax before it can be considered a success.

7. Wash and wear - Fine and over-conditioned hair doesn't cope well with styling, so hold off on the deep conditioning. Actually, if you want the best results, wash your hair the day before the wedding and skip the shampoo on your wedding day.

8. Save some cash - It's tempting to beg your stylist to come to your house on the big day, but you'll get better results if you go to the salon and let your stylist work with their own tools in their own environment. AND it will probably cost less than the house-call.

9. The quick change - Be sure to wear a button-down shirt to the salon so that you don't dismantle all the hard work when you go home to change into your gown.

10. Try before you buy - Do a test-run on your wedding day style. Remember that the more intricate the style, the more uncomfortable it may be and the more careful you'll need to be.
