Top 10 Wedding Themes

Themes are all the rage for weddings these days, but are you feeling more "Sunset by the Shore" and not so much his suggestion of "Football Tailgate Party"? When you know you want something different, but aren't sure exactly what - consider one of these theme weddings. 1. Formal - Think country club, museum or ballroom as a venue. Attire is upscale and elegant. The bride wears a ballgown length dress and the groom is dressed to the nines in black or white tie. Flowers should be classic white roses, white orchids and stephanotis and the music of a small orchestra or standards band will set the stylish mood. 2. Casual - A backyard, local park, community center or an art gallery can make perfect settings for a casual wedding. Wear what you're comfortable in - perhaps a white sundress for her and khakis (or jeans!) and sport coat for him. Handwrite your own invitations on handmade paper and think wildflowers or daisies for your bouquet. 3. Hollywood Glamour - Much like the formal wedding, the feel is elegant, but with a touch of classic Hollywood style. Bridal gowns with v-necks and fish-tail hems are all the rage while grooms step out in top hat and tails. A swing band is a perfect accompaniment for this type of wedding. Instead of the usual numbers, consider naming your tables after classic Hollywood stars or romantic movies. 4. Victorian - Think ruffles, bows and lace for her and morning coat or tailcoat for him. An afternoon wedding is preferred and as far as venue, a garden setting or Victorian style mansion, Inn or church would serve well. Since light and simple was the fare of the era, a luncheon with finger sandwiches, crumpets, tea and desserts are ideal (and cost effective!). 5. Seaside / Beach - When picking your wardrobe, think casual and airy and remember that NO ONE wears shoes on the beach. If you're getting married in the sand, you should feel it between your toes! Reception fare can be as casual as bonfire barbeque, with every cocktail sporting an umbrella and a wedding cake in the shape of a sandcastle! 6. Disney - You may be all grown-up, but you're never too old for Mickey! If you can't get to the Magic Kingdom, bring the Mouse to you! Look to Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty for dress ideas, Prince Charming's costume for him (or perhaps it's just a top hat with ears!), Mickey and Minnie in bridal wear for the cake topper. Bight colors, Disney favors, and a honeymoon in Disney World and you'll have captured the magic! 7. Christmas - It's such a magical time of year, why not capitalize on that for your wedding? Venues will already be decorated for the season, poinsettias and evergreens are abundant, and having your bridesmaids in deep red or green will help model the holiday spirit. A centerpiece idea - miniature Christmas trees surrounded with wedding favors in holiday wrapping. 8. Shakespeare - "Romeo, Romeo." Who doesn't love the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet? Capture the romantic Renaissance with hand written invitations on parchment and period clothing for the bride and groom. An Italian feast worthy of the Capulets and the Montagues, natural flowers, ribbons, candles and a string quartet playing romantic music completes the scene.
