Keeping your job is as important as finding a job. This week’s tips will help you make sure your boss will never fire you.
.) E-mail, checking your business versus personal on company time are 2 different things. Check your personal on your own time and ideally before or after work.
.) Cell phone. Have the ringer off during work, have people only use this line and not the company and avoid texting on company time. Your reputation as a texter is not advantageous when company cuts are up for review.
.) Social media, do not use on company time. It only takes a boss 2 times to catch you goofing off before they write you off as a slacker.
.) Punctuality, make a point to be at work each day and every meeting earlier than most. Being on time is not good enough, be early.
.) Friendly, it is often said that you see people at work more than people at home. Use the 3 foot rule, every time you come within 3 feet of someone, look them in the eye and say hello.
.) Personal appearance, make a strong effort to dress better than 90% of the people at your office. If you’re not sure, seek help. Dressing nice does not mean expensive clothes. As long as its fits right, matches and wear nice shoes your well on your way.
.) Office space, every night before you go home, your desk should have nothing on it. Keep it spotless and clean. Avoid having it look like a pack-rat resides there.
.) Thank you cards, send a card at least once a month to superiors and subordinates. Your reputation as someone who really cares will explode.
.) Appreciation, let your boss know you appreciate your employment and if there is anything else you can help out with. Your willingness to assist will carry you to a promotion.
.) Social media, make sure what you put on social media will not get you fired. If your grandmother would not like it then chances are your boss will not either. Stay with the high road.
