Hello, My story is not about a rescue but a privilage. I reciently had the privilage of being able to adopt a baby monkey. His name is Chewy he is a red handed tamarin. He is about 10wks old and wieghts 4oz's. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this or has this privilage and would like to share some tips on raising a happy and healthy baby. Chewy and I started a program in our community with the schools. We go and visit these children and I tell them about Chewy and we try to teach these kids on how very important it is to take care of the pets that they have. We give them advise and answer questions and let them know about the importance of proper pet care. We try to teach them that no matter what kind of pet they may have (ants, cats, dogs, frogs, birds) that it is a privilage.
I adopted a york 12 years ago. when I got her she was on death row...They were going to put her to sleep because no one wanted her...All her babies were taken...I had just been there by chance..I said I wanted her my husband said are you sure...Well low and behold I got her to the vet and they said that she wastn't going to make it...I nursed her back to life...I had a good many years and she was the best thing to me...I loved her daily she just passed on in April..She had a brother he died 2 years ago...I will allways remember the goodtimes...I miss them more than you can tell...But thank you for listening...

Well Michelle, that's a pretty tough coat to work with externally (as you know!) but you might try feeding your Friend some herbs & food that can help REPEL insects. Cook his/her dinner with some fresh garlic (cook it well w/a little olive oil in pan; add the protein & veggies; add to kibble). Also look into CAPSTAR and ask your health food store or on line holistic Vet's for herb caps that can help make your dog a less delicious "host" to critters! Spritzing him/her with natural oils that contain Peppermint; Camphor; Citronella etc. are also good deterrents but don't have the harsh chemicals. Good luck!
Does anyone know how long a ferret is supposed to live? Our ferret is at least six years old, and still appears to be going strong.
Chrys
Actually, I think our ferret is 7 years old.
