It is grotesque, not Glam

I try to be objective about the parents and the children involved in these pageants but the pageant moms have shown themselves to be so delusional and ignorant that I can't help but feel bad for the children.

What kind of a message are they sending to their child when they make their child put on massive amounts of makeup, fake eyelashes, fake hair, fake teeth, and fake tans in order to be considered "pretty". If they truly think their child is so beautiful then she would NOT need all of that makeup- NOBODY needs all of that stuff except drag queens and hookers. Seriously, if you saw a grownup "glammed" out like that you would either assume they were a hooker or a drag queen.

And these parents are PAYING someone to judge their child. I don't need to pay a stranger for their opinion for me to know that my child is beautiful and talented.

I really can't get over how these little girls are dressed up and made to parade and frisk about like prostitutes trolling for customers. Exactly what kind of preparation for life are you gving your child by letting her prance about trying to get the attention of total strangers (aka the judges) for money?

It is really just so sad. Those little girls just look so grotesque and fake. I'm pretty sure that the self esteem that they supposed get by being in pageants and winning is quickly outdone by the fact that they statistically cannot win most of the time.. It's kinda like a gambling addiction. That thrill of those rare wins are far exceeded by the cost of the game and the many losses they incur. And the damage it does is immense.

It's just such a pitiful sight to see these little girls all pimped out, especially at the end when they have lost or didn't win the big prize. Why would parents put their children through this? Oh yeah, because those parents are trying to make up for their own miserable ugly duckling childhood (and in many cases, their adulthood too !).

And based upon many pageant parent posts NONE of them would ever win a spelling bee. I know it is rude to pick apart posts because of errors ( we all make them ) but most of these people make such huge errors in spelling and grammer that you can't help but KNOW that they are woefully ignorant. I'm embarrassed for them to be displaying such a lack of education with no shame at all.

I love this show. I have friends who love too. It is a riot! It is entertainment!

Sorry for the double post but i need to add something for sailing 1962.

You were angry at how sad they looked, well take into account that kids look equally sad when they loose a softball game, gymnastics, etc.

Of course they are sad, but then that gives them the motivation to try harder. If they got everything they wanted and never lost anything as a child they would be a failure as an adult.

Ok "cajunFroggy" so you think this is training the kids to become prostitutes that will not be able to graduate high school basically.

ok well so you know Halle Berry competed in child pageants along with Kathie lee, diane sawyer, sharon stone, Vanessa williams(first african american Miss USA), and sara Pailin.

Hell even oprah and justin timberlake competed in child pageants.

And as you can see thier lives are horrible and filled with failure. wait....no...thats yours

I am completely horrified. No child at such an early age should go through something like this. It is a complete gamble. I believe that in the long run, no child benefits from this and the outcome can be sooo damaging in the long run. Parents who involve thier children in this sort of thing are ABUSIVE. The children who are not chosen look so sad. I want to cry for them. And to those mothers who are involved...do you have any education in child develpment?

i agree with cajunfroggy. i just watched this for the first time. i watched the episode with the little girl bringing the snake onstage. The mother didnt go into all the tanning and hair extensions, and i liked that. the mother of the winner make me sick. she gave her daughter DIET MOUNTAIN DEW to wake her up. it was her "power juice"!!!! she won!! so the message to all these young girls is that if you have fake tans, and fake hair, you're a winner. as a mother of two beautiful girls, i would never do this to my children, and i think the message is horrible.
