Prepare for Safety Early

Hi, my name is Cindy Togstad. My sons Will, Terry and myself were the guests that went with Peggy and Mel on the Dec 25 show(Greensburg). I really want to urge everyone to buy a weather radio for their home or business. Have a plan intact where to go in case of a tornado. Have flashlights, food, change of clothes, batteries, water, firstaide kit etc.... in your safety area. When the 2.5 mile wide tornado hit our home by Wilber, NE. May 22, 2004 I didn't have anything ready, but I did have a weather radio. My boys were home with 2 friends. Even though I had warned them a tornado was on the ground 20 miles away, they thought I was foolish and they decided were going to watch a movie and forget the tornado. They were alerted by the weather radio, it was sounding off constantly and they looked out at the approaching storm realizing it was headed for them. They could not tell at that time it was a tornado because it was so big and rain wrapped! They said if I had not had that radio in the house they would not have payed as much attention to the storm that took everything from us, and they would have been dead. The most important people in our life was saved due to this radio. We found the radio out in the yard and it still works. I gave it to a friend and we bought a new one. My sister talked me into getting that radio. Now I am praying who ever reads this will pass the word on, "buy a weather radio and get ready for tornado season early". This may save your life or someone else close to you!!
I want to also add going on this chase and watching the show gave me some closure as it did for my boys. Peggy and Mel were very safe in everything they did. Safety was first! They are real professionals. I did trust them by putting my life, also my 2 sons lives in theirs hands going chasing with them. They have become very close friends of the family! I still can't thank them enough for stopping that night we were hit, to help bring my two sons to safety.

Keep on chasing girls, and to ALL the chasers, THANK YOU for what you do because now I know how important you are! You have saved many lives by being out there and alerting the National Weather Service where there are tornados on the ground!!

To the people of Greensburg; look forward not back. Stay positive! Life will be normal again before you know it. Also, pass forward the generousity you have been shown at this time to people in the future who may need it. You are all in my prayers and have been since that night I stood in disbelief on what I was seeing. I never thought I would see something like that again but for some reason we did. We love you all. I plan to come back to Greensburg somtime in the near future and I would like to meet you!

Take care and God Bless you all!!

Love,

Cindy Togstad & Family

Re: Prepare for Safety Early I agree with Cindy and Peggy with having a weather radio does help alot and when bad weather hits there great to have. I could not live with out mine and since i live alone and i can't hardly here the sirens sometimes. Im even thinking about getting another one for traveling or on trips they do help save lives and they work great.

Re: Prepare for Safety Early
I know we have said this before, but none us of can speak as eloquently on the subject as Cindy, whose boys'lives were saved by the weather radio. Just about 10 days ago, 88 tornadoes occurred over a period of three days and six people lost their lives. Many more were injured. PLEASE, do this small thing for your family and friends--buy a NOAA weather radio. All the warnings in the world won't help if you aren't aware of them.
