long distance maid of honor

my friend just got engaged last week and she asked me to be her maid of honor! im so excited! also a little nervous.. i have no idea whats expected of me. were both 22 and shes the first friend of mine to get married. im moving from ny to florida in a few weeks so im gonna be far away. shes not worried and said we can do everything through emaila nd phone. but this seems a little difficult..
plus im seeing mixed answers online of whats expected from a maid of honor. any advice would be helpful

also if anyone knows how to go about getting a career being a wedding planners assistant, im on the look out for that in south florida!
