John Edward Cross Country

Heroes

Heroes
Hey John Edward Cross Country fans, thanks for checking in. This episode we named “Heroes” for obvious reasons. The readings in this show all have heroic stories attached. Check out the synopsis page on the Website, if you want a story overview. Below is strictly about the production.

At the top of the show you see John enter his new studio (not that I’m keeping count, but let’s just call it GALLERY 5, our best effort to date). The production now includes a camera on a track, hidden behind a 45-foot duck blind. Only once in the nine days of studio shooting did a camera operator named Danny fall off the tracks. He survived the fall, but not the embarrassment. This just adds to it. Hope you appreciate the studio lighting, as much as we do. Kudos to our LD (Lighting Designer), Dennis Size.

The first studio reading utilizes John Edward Microphone Cubes for the first time. They look like little jewelry boxes attached to the microphone handles. We were so glad to have it together enough to design and fabricate these way in advance. But, as you will see later in the show and season, they disappear. We had to strike them because they were rattling bad and making noise. No other show passes the mics around like JECC. So much for branding forces infinitely greater then TV shows and networks :)

You might also notice that between stories, this season we minimized the ‘Person in the Street’ sound bites (talking about what everyone thinks of the afterlife). We’re trying to get more readings in this season, and something had to go.

In Ohio, our new high-definition cameras were amazing, if not scary. Seeing snow flakes flurrying, instead of seeing a white schmeer during exterior shooting really compliments the Cross Country feel of breaking boundaries. But the bleeding technology almost went out the window, when a freelance cameraman (not familiar with the HD gear) almost erased the interview…but didn’t. The production fairies were looking out for us, for sure. I pounced on the poor shooter and ripped the camera out of his hands when he told me he was having trouble checking out playback. Maybe this work has made me more intuitive, if not more paranoid.

Thanks to all our guests, including Melody Thomas Scott from "The Young and the Restless," for being open…and for letting us share the afterlife connections that John has made for them.

A special thanks to you for your continued interest in John Edward Cross Country.

Stay tuned,

Paul Shavelson
