John Edward Cross Country

Together, Forever

Together, Forever
Hi,

Working with John Edward is a privilege, and technically challenging.

When I popped in the DVD to screen "Together, Forever," I had no idea what I would 'blog'...but that was 20 minutes ago, and now I’m sure I should say something about psychic energy messing up electronic gear, and more subtly agitating electronic frequencies. Be it recording or transmitting...the psychic stuff (chew-chew-chew, dadadda, eeeeeek, blinking lights) always wins out. I have had to reboot three times, just to get my speakers to barely play the sound. (That’s after the computer totally locked-up a couple of times.)

We all have electro vulnerability, but...if you combine a person who has energy as huge and swirling as John’s in a recording environment, imperfections will surface ten-fold! Ask our sound mixing engineer Joe Just. In a sealed booth, with headphones on and amplitude increased, Joe has been battling the audio demons on John’s TV projects since the beginning. Joe "sweetens" the audio to come across your TV as normal. He is a master; because if you looked at a waveform (an electronic picture) of the signal recorded, you would appreciate…other noises are present. Are they ghosts, spirits, cheap cables...probably all three. Why residual audio, and not video?? I would venture to guess that is because our brains filter audio much more specifically then vision. I haven’t seen too many spirits on the set, but we all know they are there. That’s why John Edward Cross Country is enjoying its third season WE tv.

Cynics can say "radio frequency interference" is not uncommon in video production, and yes occasionally we’ve gotten gypsy cab calls lofting through the control room. But the ratio of audio glitches on John Edward Cross Country is off the charts. I would bet the house that "Tori and Dean Inn Love" doesn’t spend as much time 'EQing' sound as we do. (I hope I win points with our Director of Business Affairs, Glenn, just for mentioning Tori Spelling in my Blog :)

TOGETHER FOREVER is a show we are all proud to present. Please check out the episode synopsis on the WEtv.com site for the show overview.

While watching John Edward Cross Country, please take a moment and closely listen to the sound. Not only is Jack Walker’s beautiful original music an accompaniment to the stories we show—but so is a cacophony of energy that begs the question of what we all would hear (and see) if we all fine tune.

Best,
Paul
