Never in my life have I seen (or imagined) a bouquet made of sponges. And my first vision of that is exactly what I encountered when I met Corryn, my next bride-to-be who was simply too adorable and too well-intentioned to have flower-shaped neon pink and green sponges have any part in her wedding!
The thing about Corryn is that she had great ideas–fantastic ideas, even. When we met, I was impressed to learn how she knew classic Hollywood black and white movies like the back of her hand…and to me, that’s a wonderful place to draw inspiration for any kind of party, especially a wedding.
So what was this Audrey Hepburn protégé doing with pink and green plans, flower sponges and a Styrofoam wedding cake? She needed to ditch her reeling wedding plans for a streamlined concept that was just as reflective of Vintage Hollywood as her dreams were.
The golden age of Hollywood was all about the glitz and glamour and was an exciting era of fabulous fashion. Our first surprise wasn’t for the bride: Corryn’s bridesmaids took a step back in time with some inspired gowns and jewels from another time! Next, Corryn’s wedding dress needed to be a “show-stopper” for certain (and NOT the ill-fitting halter dress she bought for $20!) A gown by the legendary designer Amsale would make this Hollywood bride into a bombshell with a stunning pink wedding gown that, to this day, is one of my favorites I’ve seen.
The starlets in Tinseltown knew one thing, and it was that diamonds and jewels were integral in not just fashion, but life! When Corryn showed me her hand that wore a fake diamond that posed as a real engagement ring, I knew we needed a major upgrade, and fast! Michael C. Fina took great care of that with a new set of wedding bands for Corryn’s husband to place on her hand at their vow exchange… And Corryn would walk down the aisle to that exchange carrying a real wedding bouquet of roses (no more sponges) on her wedding day at a beautiful ceremony at Twenty Four Fifth, a ballroom in Manhattan as nostalgic as they come. A 50′s-inspired, vintage-themed ceremony and reception in the city would be sure to be a perfect wedding scenario right off the silver screen that would make Corryn the sophisticated star she always dreamed of being. Watch Corryn star in her own episode of “My Fair Wedding” this Sunday on WE tv!
