Does a working animal deserve a place among Platinum Pets? If it knows how to hunt for wild culinary delicacies that go for as much as $2,500 per pound, yes. Though hiding just a few inches under the ground, truffles cannot be detected without the help of a trained pig. Their keen sense of smell makes them absolutely essential for hunting truffles, but they must be kept on a short leash or they’ll gobble them right up—and how can you blame them? From there, the truffle is sold for a king’s ransom and little bits of it are sprinkled on risottos and pastas in the world’s finest restaurants.
