The Story: When Debbie Parkhurst choked on a bite of apple last year, she was alone in her Maryland home. But, of course, you're never really alone when you have a dog. Toby lunged hard at her chest, knocking her over and forcing the apple piece out. "I couldn't breathe and I was in panic when Toby jumped on me," she told the Associated Press. "He never does that, but he did, and saved my life." For his heroism, Toby was named 2007's Dog of the Year by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and feted with a lunch at Manhattan's Rainbow Room.
