Compass I410
Cost: $119.99 at target.com
Just the facts: Fits infants up to 22 lbs. 5-point harness; completely lined with EPS foam and the deepest and widest infant car seat on the market.
Worth noting: If lightweight matters to you, the Compass is your seat, coming in at only 8.4 lbs. The Compass was recently bought by the Learning Curve, and is also sold as the First Years Via and Learning Curve Via. While the seat is only compatible with Baby Planet and Joovy strollers, there is also a I420 model that is compatible with Inglesina strollers.
What the experts say: Consumer Reports gives the I410 "very good" for ease of use and fit to car. Baby Bargains (7th edition) gives the seat an "A-" and praises the superior side impact protection and easy to adjust straps.
Raves: Reviews at places like target.com praise the padded handle, easy to adjust straps and strong metal-to-metal connectors. But the highest praise comes from this parent who said, "…we had a terrible accident and the seat took it in stride."
Rants: You must use the carrier with the base and some say it doesn't fit into shopping carts or stroller frames.
