Graco SafeSeat
Cost: $116.37 at amazon.com
Just the facts: Fits infants up to 30 lbs. and 32 inches. Lined with EPS foam. Side impact protection. Passed the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) peak crash force test at approximately 2x the car seat standard.
Worth noting: If you come from tall and broad family, this is the seat for you as it currently has the highest weight and height limit available on the market. Compatible with many different brands of strollers.
What the experts say: Consumer Reports gives the SafeSeat a "very good" for both ease of use and fit to vehicle. Baby Bargains (7th edition) gives the seat an "A" noting that its size capacity allows you to keep your baby rear-facing longer, which is the safest way for a child to ride.
Raves: Graco car seats have an excellent reputation, and parents online seem to trust this brand. Many point out that because of its size, you get a lot of bang for you buck, with one Amazon.com user saying "we've gotten 17 great months worth of use out of it and were able to skip the purchase of a convertible seat."
Rants: Because of its size and weight (9.75 lbs.) some parents find the seat bulky and heavy to carry.
