Many would agree with me that marriage is work, a LOT of work! There are times that are good and times that are bad, really bad. Bryan and I really didn’t know how easy we had it before children. I believe the stress of finding out we were having sextuplets, to the hospitalization, to near death experience, and having six newborns and a TON of family around was more than enough stress on our marriage!
After we were settled back in Havasu there were a lot of emotions and lots of anger due to extreme exhaustion and extreme stress. We sought counseling with our pastor and his wife simply because we knew we needed help! It was a like an SOS..we were drowning here and we needed someone with fresh perspective, biblical guidance and someone who cares that we succeed as a couple!
Over the past two years we have met regularly with our pastor simply because we need it! We get so angry or hurt or start competing over who is doing more at home. We just need someone to sit down and help us to remember our priorities and someone who we consider very wise to give us wise counsel to work out our disagreements. It has saved us!!!
Along with counseling, Bryan and I try to do regular date nights, whether dinner or movies or just sitting at Hastings reading books. Without time alone together, without babies or family we become strangers and quickly start heading in separate directions. We believe in marriage, we believe in commitment. We believe it is SO DIFFICULT at times, but it is worth the fight! And lastly we believe in the blessings that follow our commitment to one another and our obedience to the Lord.
