How To Throw A Halloween Party

Halloween parties aren’t just for kids. When it comes to hosting a terrifyingly good time (like Roseanne!), the entertaining options are endless. Here are some ideas to inspire your spine-chilling celebration.

Décor
Do you want to go tacky or classy when decorating your haunted house? You can revisit the traditional Halloween of your childhood (think plastic skeletons, tombstones, and fog machines) or design something more sophisticated. Some hosts even opt to give their guests a devilishly good dinner party. If you’re going for chic, rather than creepy, create a table display featuring mini pumpkins spray painted black, silver and gold. Adorn serving areas with antique black candelabras to add a gothic glow. Cover fresh floral arrangements with cobwebs. Just remember, one of the most fun parts about hosting a Halloween bash are the DIY décor projects, so put on your witch’s thinking hat and get to work!

Drinks
Instead of stocking the usual bar, mix some “spooktacular” Halloween inspired cocktails.
Check out this great list from the Food Network for recipes like Spellbinders with Devil Eyeballs and Witch’s Brew that you can serve in this cute black cauldron. For a ghoulish garnish, put out “eyeballs” instead of olives. Click here for step by step instructions on how to make them. Guests can pick their poison thanks to these fun Halloween themed beverage labels. And don’t forget the pumpkin beer! Most brands offer tasty seasonal brews this time of year.

Food
For large Halloween shindigs, buffet style finger foods are the easiest options. Ask guests to bring a dish for a hocus-pocus potluck. Be sure to serve appetizers and desserts that can easily incorporate a Halloween twist. For example, serve condiments in this tombstone dip set, add gummy worms to the top of a “Death by Chocolate” dessert, or turn deviled eggs into “devilish eggs” by adding some evil embellishments. Get the recipe here. For an extra touch, design little cards to label your dishes. These cupcake toppers are frighteningly fab! Visit Etsy.com for more inspiration.

One of the best parts about Halloween is the candy. Create a small dessert table featuring large apothecary jars filled with your favorite sweet treats. Provide small bags, like these glassine bags with stickers, so guests can channel their inner trick-or-treater and scoop up a delicious parting present.

Music
Creating your Halloween playlist is almost as fun as dancing to it later in the night. Must-have tunes include:

-Ghostbusters, Ray Parker Jr.
-The Time Warp, Rocky Horror Picture Show
-Super Freak, Rick James
-Superstition, Stevie Wonder
-Thriller, Michael Jackson
-Abracadabra, Steve Miller Band
-Monster Mash, Bobby “Boris” Pickett
-I Put a Spell on You, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

And don’t forget to dress the part. Rather than buying an expensive costume in a bag, go to a thrift store for unique vintage finds. Happy haunted hosting!
