Penny, 26, of Phoenix, Arizona - The BBAs
Ever since my first backstage experience at a John Lennon tribute show in 2002, a woman who was watching me hanging out with the band dubbed me Penny Lane, after Kate Hudson’s memorable portrayal of the legendary groupie in Almost Famous.

Music is my life, and even though I worked very hard to sustain a "normal" 9-5 job in the healthcare industry, the filming of Secret Lives gave me the strength to make the choice to completely immerse myself in music, full-time. I now work at the popular music store Zia Record Exchange, here in Phoenix, and I love every minute of it. I’m a classic rock chick, my favorites being punk and all music that is outside the box. But even at the record store, most don’t know that I’m a groupie, and that I have been for many years!

When I met my lifelong friend Miss Dollierocker completely by chance at Beatlefest 2005 (Chicago), we compared our early backstage experiences with great delight and curiosity. I was there performing as a solo female John Lennon tribute - who knew I’d meet my BEST FRIEND in the middle of the country like that! We knew we had a lot in common, especially with our love for Almost Famous. Even after we went back to our respective homes in Southern California and Delaware, we kept in touch and became very close. When she and I realized we were groupies, we opted to call ourselves "bandaides" after our favorite film. Starting out as a team, soon we met two girls on MySpace (the “Sunset Strip of the new millennium”!) who were interested in joining our group, calling themselves Miss Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, and Miss Senti. Not very long after that, Miss Dollierocker’s sister Danni was eager to join our group. We needed a name! All of us had a mutual love for The Beatles, and for Almost Famous. Thus, The Beatle Bandaides (The BBAs, for short), were born!

I love living with Dollie and Danni, my best friends. In the BBA House, who could ask for more! We often have our favorite musicians hanging out there, After all our house has quite the effect on all who enter, decorated from the walls to the coffee table with the most amazing rock and roll memorabilia. While all three of us have our different occupations, for each of us, being a BBA is a full-time job! In 2007 I hosted the first-ever groupie internet radio show, called BBA Radio: Radio FOR Groupies, BY Groupies. With my current designs on being an old school radio DJ, it was one of the best experiences ever! Over the past few years I’ve made the best friends, traveled to England, I even got the chance to meet and work with my #1 groupie idol, Mr. Rodney Bingenheimer, in 2007!

Many people ask me, “Why do you call yourself a bandaide, when you’re a groupie? What’s the difference?” To me, there IS no difference. They’re both just words! Personally, I am comfortable with either one. When girls started referring to themselves as bandaides in the early 70’s, they were trying to avoid being objectified, not wanting to be written off as "groupies." I don’t really believe it matters, because I am doing exactly what I want to be doing. The queen herself, Miss Pamela, definitely played a huge role in helping Danni, Dollie, and myself to stop being afraid of the G word. All groupies are goddesses, they are muses, and an essential part of ALL music. Musicians and groupies are a yin & yang.

Deciding what you want in life and risking practically everything to go after it, over and over again, it’s a very frightening and exhilarating, all at once. But, that’s the life that I am happiest living!
