I have a secret to share with you; I am a SHOPAHOLIC. Let me tell you a little bit about why I shop. I am a full-time college student, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Broadcasting. A typical day in my life is hectic! I'm usually up at the crack of dawn and driving an hour to school, where I take 18 credits. During my lunch break I'm often running into the city to work, because I model to pay for school. After this I will usually drive all the way back to school where I will stay until 4 in the morning, due to my job as managing editor of the newspaper. With all this stress, how can I not stop to treat myself to a grande skinny cinnamon dolce latte with extra whip at Starbucks?! I mean yes it adds up, but coffee is a must! It's not my fault if I pass the most fabulous boutiques while walking to my castings in the city. The way I look at it, I just saved a bunch of money on cab fare, by walking, so it can't hurt if I float on into this store and take a peek. This usually ends up with me leaving, several bags in hand. Ok. Yes, I've realized that my habits have turned into a bit of a problem for me and my family, but shockingly, that realization has not stopped me. Although my Dad has been laid-off from work and my parents are struggling to pay hospital bills for my brother who is ill, recently my shopping has gotten more frequent. I like to get mani/pedis/full body massages, and buy fabulous designer clothes. Oh Tory Burch, why do you torture me so?! Maybe it's because all this stuff with my family has me stressed out and depressed, I seek refuge in fabulous style, by my friends Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, and Salvatore Ferragamo. My family and friends are very aware of my "situation." Some friends encourage me and others are on a mission to stop me. These friends have literally, at times, dragged me out of stores and away from counters just as I was about to make a purchase. My mom just wishes I would stop all together and learn how to save. I know I may have no conception of a budget, or any intention of saving, but that doesn't mean I have gone too crazy. I've never had a late credit card bill. I believe my problem will get better as soon as I have the time to work more and support myself. That way I won't be spending more than I make. At least let's hope so. |
