A Father’s Flight
Stephen Fagan "spirited away" his two toddler daughters to save them from what he called a "neglectful mother." Told their mother was dead, the girls lived with their father under new identities until they were discovered 19 years later. As his ex-wife and mother of their two daughters looked on, Stephen Fagan pleaded guilty to kidnapping. He could have gotten 20 years in prison, but received just 5 years probation. But the girls sided with their father, and refused to be re-united with their mother, believing his story that their mother was not fit to care for them.
