Who Killed These Girls?
On Dec. 6, 1991, just before midnight, an Austin, Texas police officer reported on a fire at a yogurt shop on the north side of town. Inside, authorities found the burned bodies of four teen-age girls: Eliza Thomas and Jennifer Harbison, both store employees; Sarah Harbison, Jennifer's sister, and Amy Ayers, a friend. All of the girls had been shot. The case remained unsolved until October 1999 when police arrested four men, two of whom confessed to the murder. A grand jury indicted three of the four suspects. If convicted, Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott could receive the death penalty; Maurice Pierce could spend life in prison.
