At Tamar’s first recording session with Harvey, she reveals her insecurities about doing a new song. Harvey plays tracks for her, and they find a track she loves. Then Damon Thomas, Harvey’s producing partner, joins the session. Tamar tells Damon that she doesn’t want to do a ballad but he convinces her to keep an open mind. In Atlanta, Andre shows Towanda his book and asks her to come to a signing. Towanda can’t but won’t tell him why: Toni’s called a family meeting in L.A. Andre, hurt and angry, storms out. Towanda and Trina later ask Tamar about her album and Tamar shares her concerns that Vince won’t like the "hoodrat" tone. Conversation shifts when they ask Towanda why Toni wants them there but Towanda, the secret squirrel, won’t spill a word. Over wine and cheese, Toni announces to her family (including her Dad) that she’s having a partial hysterectomy - the next day! Everyone’s shaken up and Tamar cries. A group prayer leads to giggles, which lightens the mood. The next day after Towanda drives Toni and Keri (Toni’s ex) to the hospital, we see Toni on a gurney, nervous. Hours later after a successful surgery, Tamar points out how nice it is to see their parents getting along. The sisters tease them and say it’s a welcome change from their prior gatherings. Evelyn tells the girls that she and Michael will always do what’s necessary for the children. As Towanda prepares Toni’s house for her return, she gets a text from Andre that he has a book signing. Toni comes home, gets in bed, and Keri and the boys take care of her. Toni then tells Towanda to return to her own family in Atlanta. Towanda shows up at Andre’s signing and he’s delighted. Towanda’s proud, but she knows that even with this book Andre can’t pay the bills. In L.A. Tamar asks Vince for help writing a song and he suggests she step away if she has writers’ block. She sings a bit for him and he likes it but still wants her to figure the song out herself.
