How long have you been dreaming of your wedding day? I’ve been dreaming about my wedding day since I was in sixth grade. I started drawing the wedding dress I pictured in my head with the colors of the wedding and what church I wanted to hold the wedding at.
Who’s paying for the wedding? Joshua and I are paying for most of the wedding, and Joshua’s parents have been helping out when it’s too tight for us.
What happens if you go over budget? I’m going to have the biggest smile on my face because it’s already hard enough to pay for things and if something happens to where I go over I’m going to be greatful and freak out after the wedding, because at least then I don’t have to worry about things for the wedding and I’ll have my way for my big day! I’m sure it will affect my bills, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out later, no worries.
Did you hire a wedding planner? How are they doing? No I didn’t hire a wedding planner, and I’m happy I didn’t because it would just be another person I’m sure I would get sick of getting in my way. Don’t get me wrong I like help when I ask for it, but a wedding planner I feel would just frustrate me more than necessary.
How helpful has the groom been (or not) in the planning process? Joshua has been really helpful with planning the wedding, colors, locations and getting people together to set-up for our wedding day. Other than that he would try by giving his input on catering, which did not work. I’ve asked him if he was joking a couple of times. For example, Joshua thought it would be a good idea if we could ask people to bring their own dish like a pot luck.
Tell us about your family. How have they been involved in the planning process? My family hasn’t been too involved in my wedding planning, my mom helps find me good deals on crafts for the wedding since I’m making my own center pieces, invitations, and favors. My dad doesn’t care since he’s my dad. All I have to do is tell him what to wear and when to be there (according to him). My dad is getting remarried and he’s told me he’s not too worried and he doesn’t get why I care; he’s a man - I can’t ask too much from him.
Have you or your groom been married before? Any children? If so, what role will the kids play on the wedding day? Yes, I have been married and I have two kids from the previous marriage. Joshua has never been married. My daughter Zianne is the flower girl and my son Zander is the ring bearer.
What’s the worst thing that could go wrong on your wedding day? I think the worst thing that could happen is not getting my dress back from being fitted on time and therefore not having a dress to wear when I walk down the aisle.
What disagreements have come up about the wedding? I got so upset about not having the money to get food for the reception, so instead we decided to just have a cake reception, and then he tells me a few weeks later that his mom will pay for the food for the reception. I threw my hands up and said, “I don’t want to know about it! Last time she said she was going to help with the food, we had to change venues so this time I’m planning for just the cake reception and if she gets the food then she does. Other than that, I don’t care!" He said OK, and that’s been all because I’m not counting on anyone other than myself.
Has the engagement/wedding ever been called off, or in jeopardy? If so, what happened and how did it get resolved? Yes, it was called off due to finances; so we called off the California wedding and brought it to Iowa where we live.
Define the type a bride you will be: Controlling; I’m always making sure everything is done on “my schedule” and no one else’s!
