Reckless Abandon
Prue is hoping her boss will send her and Jack on a business trip to New York, while Piper confides that she loves Dan, but isn’t ready to move in with him. Meanwhile, Phoebe tries to convince Morris to give her a job at the police station using her powers. When she touches Matthew, an abandoned baby, she has a flash of a man snatching the baby from his playpen and being chased out of the house by a ghost. Phoebe brings the baby back to the house.
Phoebe returns to the police station, hoping to ID the baby’s father. Phoebe brings a print out to Prue, who recognizes Gilbert van Lewen as the man who’s father and brother have recently died under mysterious circumstances. Meanwhile, at the van Lewen home, Gilbert is confronted by his mother, Martha, and wife, Alexandra, who doesn't believe in ghosts and are angry with Gilbert for taking the baby. Suddenly, the ghost appears and kills Gilbert. The ghost says he won’t finish until all the men in the family are dead.
Piper learns the van Lewen’s chauffeur disappeared shortly before Mr. van Lewen’s death, so she and Phoebe return to the house to question Martha. At first dubious of the witches, Martha and Alexandra won’t let them in. Then Piper produces a swatch from the baby’s quilt. Once inside, the ghost appears, and takes the swatch. When everyone makes a run for it, the ghost strikes Martha with lightning, warning that if he doesn’t get the baby, Martha will die.
The witches learn that the chauffeur was obsessed with Martha. He was shot and buried under a tree in the backyard. The witches work on a potion to spread over his bones to vanquish his ghost. When the ghost catches them at work, he shoots a Lightening bolt at the witches, reburying his bones.
Martha confesses to the witches that she was the one who shot the chauffeur, not her husband, and realizes the only way to vanquish the ghost is to destroy the object of his wrath. Martha throws herself off the balcony to her death, and destroys the ghost.
