Cole dreams of being stabbed during a confrontation with another ‘Cole.’

Piper prepares a celebratory breakfast in honor of the defeat of The Source. Phoebe comes to her with continuing doubts about Cole; Piper reassures her she is having normal pre-wedding jitters.

Cole attacks The Seer when he is summoned to the underworld; he is furious that since defeating The Source, he is evolving into him.  The Seer reminds him they have to take care of Karzon before he kills a Charmed One.  She explains that if Karzon kills a lone witch nothing will be able to stop him from becoming The Source.

Phoebe notices Cole’s recent strange behavior and goes to The Book of Shadows for answers. Piper assures her that Cole’s behavior is purely human.

At work Paige finds out she is being promoted to social worker.  She is conflicted by the personal gain attained through her use of magic and comes home to share her dilemma with Piper. Karzon appears and tries to attack; he seems foiled that there are 2 witches in the house, not one as expected.  Piper summons Leo who explains that the termination of The Source has caused a power struggle in the underworld and whomever kills a Charmed One will ascend to ultimate power.

Phoebe casts a spell to hear her true heart’s desire; she wants to know whether or not to marry Cole. She conjures up her past and future selves.  The latter cannot help her and urges Phoebe to make her own decisions without using magic.  Phoebe is very confused and sees nothing familiar in her older self.

The Seer tells Cole that The Source is controlling him more and more each day and that in the end, his love for Phoebe will not be enough to save him.  She also tells Karzon that if he kills the past Phoebe he will succeed in defeating the Power of Three.   Karzon attacks and Cole saves the young Phoebe; Leo takes her away to a safe place.  Phoebe learns that her other selves cannot return to their proper places until she comes to the answer to her query. The future Phoebe refuses to help with the answer warning that changing the future could destroy others’ lives.  The sisters try to locate Karzon to vanquish him.  The future Phoebe tells Cole they never married and she has always wondered if she could have saved him from The Source. Karzon arrives and future Phoebe steps in front of Cole, saving him from being stabbed. The sisters rush in and vanquish the demon. Just before the future Phoebe dies she looks at Phoebe and states that now she has her answer.
