Dylan comes home from his cardiologist appointment with the news that his blood pressure is unacceptably high for a 16-year-old kid. Laura decides that if she wants him to eat healthy, the entire family needs to join in too. After some research and the realization that uncooked foods could help her MS as well, Laura declares that the family will start eating raw. But for a family on a budget, eating fresh food proves to be difficult, if not impossible. Not only do the kids become disgusted with the meals, the weekly cost of food is breaking the bank. Finally, the raw diet comes to an end when Laura realizes this type of extreme diet isn't helping anyone. The family compromises, agreeing to eat less junk food but she still worries that she hasn't gotten through to Dylan and that he will remain to have health issues if he doesn't change his eating habits.
Laura finds out that her job could be on the chopping block if her school district makes cuts. Her performance is based on a point system, and currently, Laura has the bare minimum. She attends a PTA meeting where she suggests an idea for a fundraiser – bringing in a hypnotist. The PTA decides to give it a shot, but she must sell over 200 tickets for the PTA to make a profit. It's a lot riding on her shoulders, and Laura gets stressed as she tries to sell tickets throughout the community. The sales are slow and instead of raising money, they fear they will be in the red and owe money. Just when she thinks it's a bust, the show sells out as people decide at the last minute to come. After the performance, Laura asks the hypnotist to hypnotize Dylan into enjoying vegetables.
