Roz grows concerned that Frasier is in a dating slump and tries to set him up with her friend, Ann Marie—an insurance adjuster (Julia Sweeney guest stars). Roz suggests he use her as a placeholder until the right one comes along, but Frasier doesn’t find her attractive. He even turns down a blind date with Kenny’s visiting cousin.

In an effort to cheer up Frasier, Niles, Daphne, Martin and Ronee invite him on their double date. However, the sappy, romantic restaurant only magnifies his single state. The violinist and menu items for two lead Frasier to retire early. Wrapped in an afghan and cuddling his cat at home, Frasier gasps when he sees his Aunt Shirley in his reflection. Desperate, he calls Ann for a date.

Over dinner, Frasier is bored to tears by Ann’s ditzy, needy and uninspiring personality. She steps away and in walks Kenny with his knockout cousin, “Ms. Liz Wright”. Frasier tells Liz he’s on a business dinner and will join her afterwards. Ann returns and Frasier tries to speed up the dinner, but Ann orders more food and won’t stop talking. Desperate, Frasier says Niles had a medical emergency and calls her a cab. She leaves and Frasier joins Liz. Moments later, Ann returns and flies off the handle when she sees Frasier with another woman. She makes such a scene that she scares off Liz. Meanwhile, Daphne suspects that their brilliant new housekeeper, Mrs. Gablyczyck, is stealing from them. Daphne forces her to confess; only to discover later that the real culprit is Mrs. Moon!
