Our Father Whose Art Ain’t Heaven
Fed up with Frasier’s insistence on paying for everything when they go out, Martin decides to treat his sons to dinner at their favorite restaurant. Although shocked by the eatery’s high prices, Martin invites Niles and Frasier to order anything they want. Knowing their father is on a fixed income, the Crane brothers order very little, which infuriates Martin and leads to an argument that ruins the whole evening.
To make amends, Martin buys Frasier an expensive Cordoba painting he saw his son admiring the night before in the restaurant. Unfortunately, Frasier was lying to the maitre d’ about liking the artwork, which means he feels compelled to tell Martin that he likes a painting he actually despises.
Meanwhile, Niles is locked in a battle of wills with Maris after they both plan a party for the same night and invite all of the same guests. Back at Frasier’s condo, Frasier finally admits to Martin that he actually hates the Cordoba painting. Although an emotional discussion brings both father and son to tears, they realize that they respect each other enough to be honest, even when it hurts.
