First Date
Frasier's plans to spend a quiet night at home are interrupted by the news that Martin expects Frasier to accompany him to a relative's wake. Then, Niles stops in to tell Frasier he's ready to ask Daphne out on a date, but panics when he thinks she’s overhead their conversation.
Instead, Daphne assumes someone else is the object of Niles' affection and she asks him who the lucky lady is. Forced to come up with an answer, he blurts out the name "Phyllis," a neighbor in his building. Daphne encourages Niles to invite Phyllis to dinner, and even surprises Niles by showing up at his apartment on the evening of the big date to help him cook.
Although Niles never called Phyllis to invite her to dinner, she fortuitously shows up at Niles' door to bring him some mail that was delivered to her by mistake. Frasier, who's also there to talk with Niles, manages to cover for him, though his lie sends Phyllis running! Later, everyone leaves and Niles winds up having dinner alone with Daphne -- exactly what he had been hoping for from the beginning.
