Dr. Nora
Buoyed by the success of Frasier’s call-in show, the station searches for a second radio “shrink” to hire. Frasier suggests they sign up Dr. Nora Fairchild, who appears to be sweet and charming. However, once Frasier’s protegee gets on the air, she becomes harsh and self-righteous, berating virtually every caller.
Frasier feels responsible for Dr. Nora and decides to talk with her about toning down her approach before she alienates her audience. To Frasier’s dismay, Daphne and Martin admire Dr. Nora’s “tough love” approach, and the station manager reports that callers flood the switchboard whenever Dr. Nora is on the air. Emboldened by her success, Dr. Nora even interrupts Frasier’s show to discount his advice and offer her own.
Determined to fight Dr. Nora, Roz digs up all sorts of “dirt” about her past, but Frasier doesn’t want to attack her. He just wants to prove that his methods of therapy are more effective, and decides to locate Dr. Nora’s estranged mother to prove it to her. But when the meek Mrs. Mulhern sees Dr. Nora on the air, she becomes a raging maniac who causes Dr. Nora to run screaming from the studio.
