Secret Admirer
Frasier has begun dating Nancy, a former co-worker at the radio station. Everything seems to be going great. Then, one day after playing squash with Niles, Frasier finds a gift tucked into his workout bag. It’s a pair of expensive cufflinks with an unsigned card asking for a “second chance.” Gleeful at the thought of having Nancy and a secret admirer, Frasier phones all his “exes” in an effort to smoke out the mystery woman.
The next day at Café Nervosa, a waitress asks Frasier if he’s “Dr. Crane” and hands him another present. Inside, Frasier finds an exquisite pocket watch. But when Frasier goes to the restroom, Niles notices that the gift card is addressed to Niles, not Frasier. Niles realizes that Frasier’s “secret admirer” is actually Maris, who’s trying to “buy” Niles back.
Although disappointed that he isn’t being pursued by two women, Frasier urges Niles not to confront Maris over the gifts, but Niles feels he needs to cut his ties to Maris, once and for all. Meanwhile, Nancy discovers that Frasier’s been calling his ex-girlfriends and she dumps him. Later, Niles reports that Maris was “eerily calm” about their confrontation, though she sends him one more gift: their shredded financial settlement and a nickel, which she vows will be all he’ll have left once their divorce is final.
