A Tsar Is Born
Martin is disgusted by Frasier and Niles’ refusal to attend their cousin’s we dding, which they deem will be a tacky affair. A few days later, the Crane men are able to agree on one thing: they all enjoy watching “Antiques Roadshow,” the PBS series that discovers the hidden treasures lurking in viewers’ attics.
When the show comes to Seattle, Martin visits the set, bringing along an ugly clock that’s been in the family for a century. Imagine Frasier and Niles’ surprise w hen the appraiser says the piece is a rare clock designed for Russia’s Romanoff dynasty, and that it’s worth $25,000. Naturally, Frasier and Niles conclude they are descendants of the Tsar’s royal line.
Their hopes rise after Dr. Myshkin, a Russian attache, deems the clock authentic. How ever, he also reveals that their great-grandmother wasn’t a royal—she was the Romanoff’s scullery maid. Making matters worse, she stole the clock and worked as a prostitute before marrying into the Crane family. After Myshkin leaves with the stolen heirloom, Martin comes home to announce that he’s just bought a Winnebago with the money he expects to make from selling the clock, w hich is now on its way back to Russia!
