Frasier returns from a trip to Boston, only to discover that he and Roz are expected to leave immediately for a broadcasting conference. Although Frasier tries to beg off, Roz reminds him that the opening cocktail reception is rife with dating possibilities. Hoping to jump-start his social life, Frasier agrees to go.

While they drive to the conference, Donny hires Martin to do some undercover surveillance on the cheating husband of one of his clients. Arriving at the meeting site in the middle of a storm, Frasier is told the hotel is booked solid, so Roz invites him to stay with her.

Anxious about his father’s safety, Niles joins Martin on the stakeout and convinces him that it’s wrong to meddle in someone else’s marriage. As a result, Martin doesn’t take any incriminating photos. At the hotel, Roz and Frasier sip champagne and bemoan their lousy love lives. Caught up in the moment, they nearly kiss, but are interrupted by Kenny, the station manager, who dashes any thoughts of passion by bunking with them.
