A Passing Fancy
Frasier ropes Roz into an elaborate scheme to date the woman of his dreams.
Daphne’s tossing and turning leave Niles struggling to get a good night’s sleep, while Frasier struggles to motivate Lana’s son, Kirby, to get a passing grade in history. After all, Frasier’s only tutoring Kirby so Lana will pave the way for him to date her friend, Claire. To his relief, Frasier learns that Claire dumped her most recent suitor, though Lana warns Frasier not to rush Claire into anything.
Over coffee, Roz unsuccessfully lobbies Frasier to give her a day off so she can be first in line to buy tickets to a Bruce Springsteen concert. Minutes later, Claire strolls into Café Nervosa. Unwilling to wait any longer, Frasier boldly asks Claire to go out with him, and they agree to see each other when she returns from a trip to London. His dating mission accomplished, Frasier is ready to stop tutoring Kirby…until an overheard phone message from Claire to Lana convinces Frasier that he still needs Lana’s help to win Claire’s heart.
During a study session, Kirby meets Roz and pronounces her “hot.” Desperate for Kirby to pass history, Frasier promises he’ll get Roz to attend Kirby’s prom with him. In return, he’ll give Roz her requested day off. The plan works like a charm until Kirby, Roz, Lana, Frasier and Claire wind up at the same restaurant on prom night. Claire is insulted that Frasier and Lana plotted behind her back, but Frasier manages to charm her into forgiving him. The next evening, Frasier repays Roz by spending the night in the Springsteen ticket line in order to secure seats, while at home, a sleeping Daphne pushes Niles out of bed, yet again.
