Sharing Kirby
The Crane brothers become intoxicated with the idea of viewing a wine connoisseur’s vintage collection.
Frasier is delighted to interview a pretentious Harvard undergraduate seeking an internship on his show. To his chagrin, another student is interested in the position: Kirby, the slacker son of Frasier’s friend, Lana (whom Frasier recently tutored). Eager to avoid further contact, Frasier tells Kirby that the intern slot has been filled, but promises to help him find work elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Martin’s doctor orders him to wear a special monitor to track his blood pressure for several days. Every time Martin gets annoyed, the device beeps, which forces Martin to calm himself down – much to the relief of Frasier and Daphne, who are tired of his constant complaining. Yet it’s Frasier who can’t stop whining after he discovers that Niles didn’t share a case of rare wine with him. To avenge the slight, Frasier tricks Niles into hiring Kirby to re-arrange his library.
Predictably, Kirby makes a mess of Niles’ first editions. But when Niles learns that Kirby’s girlfriend is related to a renowned wine connoisseur, Niles asks Kirby to arrange a tour of the man’s wine cellar. After Frasier hears that Kirby can only bring one person to see the collection, he begins schmoozing Kirby shamelessly. Back at home, Martin’s condition forces him to watch the romantic movies Daphne likes without complaint. Niles and Frasier try to curry favor with Kirby by barraging him with money and gifts. In the end, Frasier prevails by offering Kirby the station internship, and to his surprise, Martin finds himself enjoying Daphne’s chick flicks.
