The First Temptation Of Daphne
Jealousy gets the best of Daphne, while an unwanted house guest becomes Frasier’s worst nightmare.
A cricket that hopped into Martin’s suitcase during a hunting trip is now loose in Frasier’s condo and nearly driving him mad with its incessant chirping. Meanwhile, Daphne stumbles across a confidential patient file in Niles’ briefcase. To her dismay, she reads that one of Niles’ female clients is in love with him. Niles explains that the woman is experiencing “transference” – a common phase in which a patient transfers romantic feelings to her psychiatrist. He assures Daphne that his client’s affections will fade as her therapy progresses.
The next day over coffee, Daphne asks Frasier about transference. He admits that during his years in private practice, he was flattered by the adulation of female patients. Roz isn’t buying the psychiatric mumbo-jumbo and thinks the woman sounds like trouble. That evening, Daphne is consumed with jealousy, particularly after the woman pages Niles. When he leaves the room, Daphne sneaks another peek at her file.
While Martin and Frasier unleash a gecko to catch the cricket, Roz and Daphne sneak into the office where Niles’ client works so they can get a look at her. To Daphne’s chagrin, the woman is beautiful and successful. Daphne and Roz run off before they’re found out. Back at home, the gecko bags the cricket, and Frasier and Martin discuss how much fun they had “on the hunt” together. A tearful Daphne confesses to Niles that she confronted his patient. He angrily reprimands Daphne for breaching his client’s confidentiality, but reaffirms his love for her.
